star this property answer text <p>​Our apprenticeship programme is demand-led, and employers are empowered to drive the development of the apprenticeship standards they need to make a sustainable investment in training and grow their businesses.</p><p>New, high-quality apprenticeship standards are developed by employer-led trailblazer groups with the support of the independent Institute for Apprenticeships (IfA). A standard for ‘first officer pilot’ is currently under development by a trailblazer group led by TUI, with the participation of British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and the Royal Air Force. The standard has been approved and published and the IfA is currently reviewing the end-point assessment plan.</p><p>​We will continue to work with employers and sector bodies to understand how apprenticeships can continue to address skills needs in all sectors of the economy.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Work is underway in developing a range of rating apprenticeships which will deliver more routes into ratings training. The Deck Rating apprenticeship is now approved and the Maritime Caterer and Engine Room Rating apprenticeships are still under development. These apprenticeships, along with the levy, the tonnage tax ratings option and the challenge put to industry during London International Shipping Week to double the number of maritime apprenticeships will help stimulate increased demand for ratings.</p><p> </p><p>Coupled with this is the Ratings Taskforce of which the Department is an active member and a number of officials also attended the Ratings Seminar held in July last year. A range of actions were put forward by attendees and the Department looks forward to seeing the development of a Ratings Strategy by the Ratings Taskforce which will address some of these actions.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>While I am disappointed that P&amp;O have taken this decision I understand that it is for commercial reasons and that the company will not be changing the terms and conditions of seafarers or making any seafarer redundant. I am expecting to meet with senior members of P&amp;O in the New Year.</p><p> </p><p>UK ratings and officers working on P&amp;O ferries and who have a contract of employment under GB or UK law will have their employment rights protected under UK employment legislation.</p><p> </p> more like this
