	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/09/2017 answer text <p>We take the issue of illegal trafficking of puppies very seriously.</p><p> </p><p>Responsibility for stopping the illegal movement of puppies begins in the country where they are born. When cases of illegal puppy movements under the Pet Travel Scheme are discovered, the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) working with Defra will raise instances of abuse of the scheme with the authorities in the relevant countries.</p><p> </p><p>Defra’s Chief Veterinary Officer has written to EU countries to raise concerns over illegal smuggling of puppies and animals and APHA has worked in partnership with the Dogs Trust at Dover where approx. 600 puppies have been seized and taken into quarantine since the initiative began.</p><p> </p><p>Defra also works closely with the Pet Advertising Advisory Group to drive up standards for online advertisements and make potential pet owners and website operators more aware of rogue dealers to reduce demand.</p><p> </p><p> </p> answering member constituency Camborne and Redruth answering member printed George Eustice grouped question UIN 7280 question first answered 15/09/2017 14:44:30 answering member 3934 label Biography information for George Eustice

In 2014, using this approach, Defra published a pilot indicator of changes in the bee population in the UK between 1980 and 2010. Between 1980 and 2010, the indicator fell to 62 percent of its 1980 value. It is not yet possible to provide a trend since 2013; further development of the indicator should allow for assessment in future years.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Government continues to work to strengthen monitoring of insect pollinators. In early 2014, Defra commissioned a two-year research study to design and test a robust and affordable national monitoring framework that can be applied across the UK. This study is due to be completed later this year. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/11/2016 answer text <p>The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) take steps to ensure that sheep and other livestock are transported safely and comfortably by assessing and issuing long and short journey Transporter Authorisations to transporters. This includes the assessment of Vehicle Approval Certificates to ensure vehicles are designed and operated with regard to the welfare of animals, and the review of Competency Certificates for drivers and attendants transporting these animals.</p><p> </p><p>APHA assess and issue Journey Logs to transporters in accordance with the maximum journey times permitted for transporting animals under Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005. APHA carry out risk based supervised loadings on consignments of sheep and other livestock being exported as part of an economic activity.
