We have continually advocated for de-escalation in Idlib, and we will work to make the ceasefire permanent. Our priority is to end the conflict in Syria through a negotiated political settlement, in accordance with UNSCR 2254. We are active in pressing for de-escalation in Idlib, including by calling for an emergency UN Security Council discussion on 28 February. The Foreign Secretary also offered his support for Turkish efforts to secure a ceasefire in the north-west during his visit to Turkey on 3-4 March.
more like this

On 5 December, the UK, along with the EU and 20 countries, joined a US-led statement condemning the alleged killings and calling on the Taliban to honour their commitment to offer amnesty to former security forces and government officials. In our contacts with the Taliban, we have pressed them to take action against anyone engaging in reprisals. The UK and Saudi Arabia have a longstanding bilateral relationship, based on a number of pillars including trade; investment; defence; security; energy; and shared concerns about regional issues. No aspect of our relationship with Saudi Arabia prevents us from speaking frankly about human rights. We raise concerns regularly with the Saudi Arabian authorities through Ministerial and diplomatic channels, including our Ambassador and our Embassy in Riyadh.
more like this

We strongly support the principle that asylum seekers are entitled to decent, humane, fair treatment. We welcome the fact that Frontex has conducted an internal investigation into the allegations of pushbacks, and that the European Parliament has established a permanent standing committee in order to scrutinise Frontex. FCDO engagement includes frequent Ministerial conversations; most recently, the Foreign Secretary reiterated our opposition to Belarus' use of migrants and refugees to increase pressure on neighbouring states, in a Joint Communique issued following a meeting with her Baltic counterparts on 11 October.
more like this
