star this property answer text <p>The Department for Business and Trade strongly supports the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). We are firmly convinced by the benefits that the AfCFTA should bring, and committed to supporting Africa realise increased levels of intra-regional trade. The UK was proud to be the first non-African country to sign an MoU with the AfCFTA Secretariat in September 2021.</p><p> </p><p>This department is working closely with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to support the AfCFTA Secretariat and Member Countries with implementation. We have launched a support programme which is currently delivering on the AfCFTA’s objectives. This department continues to engage with the UK’s business and investors to utilise the AfCFTA to increase intra-African trade and investment, and we are currently working with the AfCFTA Secretariat to support their priority work streams, including the upcoming AfCFTA Business Forum in April 2023.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has a programme of support for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat and its Member States. The programme is in its first year of implementation, providing trade policy and trade facilitation support for negotiations and implementation through TradeMark Africa, ODI and other regional partners. Our assistance has supported the completion of the investment negotiations; developing plans to improve freight flows along the Lagos-Abidjan corridor, with upgrades starting at the Ghana-Togo border and is advising Ghana and Nigeria on manufacturing value chain development and positioning the private sector to grasp AfCFTA's new trading opportunities.</p> more like this

Increased and diversified manufacturing will strengthen health services and improve preparedness for future pandemics. We are supporting the Africa Centres for Disease Control's &quot;Partnership for African Vaccine Manufacturing&quot; by providing market analysis on priority vaccines for the region, to inform manufacturers' and investors' planning. We have provided technical support to develop business cases for production in South Africa, Senegal and Morocco. Our approach contributes to sustainable manufacturing in the medium and longer term across Africa through commercially viable businesses operating within an ecosystem of skilled workers, innovative technology, and effective regulation.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK recognises the value of the ongoing negotiations between Agreement on Climate Change, Trade &amp; Sustainability (ACCTS) members on new trade and climate commitments that would apply unilaterally (e.g. not only between ACCTS members). We are not seeking to join at present, but to tackle trade and environmental issues through discussions with as many partners as possible.</p><p> </p><p>Global problems require global solutions, and we are therefore progressing these matters through multilateral organisations, particularly at the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Trade and Environmental Sustainability Structured Discussions (TESSD), a plurilateral WTO group made up of 74 members.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The United Kingdom’s updated goods schedule was circulated at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) for certification on 24 July 2018, including tariff rate quotas for a range of agricultural goods.</p><p> </p><p>Australia and New Zealand were among the countries that expressed reservations. On 21st December 2018, the United Kingdom opened a process under Article XXVIII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade to negotiate these tariff rate quotas with affected WTO Members. Officials have been engaging with concerned parties in this process. In addition, officials have been engaging with both Australia and New Zealand in Free Trade Agreement negotiations, which were launched in June.</p> more like this
