star this property answer text <p>The UK is clear about its sovereignty of the Chagos Archipelago, which it administers as the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), and strongly rejects Mauritius' claim that the Territory is part of Mauritius. This is a bilateral issue and we are committed to resolving it through bilateral discussions. We are disappointed that the UN General Assembly has referred this bilateral issue to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for an Advisory Opinion. This is an inappropriate use of the ICJ Advisory Opinion mechanism and sets an unwelcome precedent for other bilateral issues. We will robustly defend our position at the ICJ.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Mauritius amended its Constitution in 1982 to include the Chagos Archipelago (which the UK administers as the British Indian Ocean Territory) within its Territory. The Government of Mauritius repeatedly makes the claim both in public and private that the Chagos Archipelago is part of Mauritius. Most recently Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth made this point during his speech at the UN General Assembly in September. Through sustained ministerial and senior official engagement, we encourage their continued and vital role in taking forward the Revitalisation Forum. We welcome the IGAD communiqué of 17 October, which noted positive and constructive progress made in initial talks with all significant parties to the conflict</p><p>The Forum is a critical opportunity for the restoration of peace in South Sudan. Only dialogue that involves a broad range of actors can bring a lasting resolution. star this property answer text <p>We take very seriously the allegations made by Amnesty International on the role of a UK company in the sale of arms to South Sudan. We have consistently called for a UN arms embargo to be implemented with immediate effect. Such an embargo would prevent any sale of arms to South Sudan globally.</p><p>The UK Government has not authorised the supply of arms to South Sudan and DIT has not issued any trade or export licences for arms to South Sudan.</p><p>Amnesty International has passed their information to HMRC and it is being assessed.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The British Government has noted the report by Amnesty International, and takes very seriously the allegations on the role of a UK company in the sale of arms to South Sudan. We have not authorised the supply of arms to South Sudan.</p><p>The British Government takes its arms export control responsibilities very seriously and operates one of the most robust arms export control regimes in the world. We do not licence the supply of equipment that would be in breach of an arms embargo, which would provoke or prolong armed conflicts, or aggravate tensions or conflicts, or if there is a clear risk that the items might be used for internal repression.</p><p>The UK is strongly opposed to the sale of weapons to South Sudan and has consistently called for a UN arms embargo to be implemented with immediate effect, which would prevent any sale of arms to South Sudan globally.</p> more like this

Our support is increasing to reflect rising needs from the recent influx of refugees, predominantly from South Sudan. In the coming year, we plan to provide food to more than 900,000 refugees, shelter to 116,000 refugees, access to clean water for more than 212,000 refugees and nutritional support to more than 215,000 children.</p> more like this
