	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/06/2015 answer text <p>The UK maintains that a short set of goals and targets to replace the Millennium Development Goals would be ideal, but we recognise the strong consensus among UN member states to maintain the Sustainable Development goals and targets on the Open Working Group in their current form.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The UK has consistently supported the content of the proposed Sustainable Development Goals. In particular we welcomed his proposal for six ‘essential elements’ as a way to communicate the agenda in an inspiring and concise way to citizens everywhere. This includes £10 million for a new health programme so that children can continue to be immunised, women can deliver babies safely and work can commence on rebuilding up to 1,000 damaged health facilities. This was announced by DFID’s Secretary of State during her visit to Nepal on 19-20 May. Our support has also provided many thousands of needy people and affected communities with access to clean water and essential shelter, and has transported thousands of boxes of food rations and lanterns. Of this around £7 million has been spent directly on support to privatisation and around £14 million on market and regulatory reform.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Support has been provided through two phases of the Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility (NIAF) programme. The first phase ran from 2007 to the end of 2011 (and spent £15.5 million on the power sector, of which £4 million was on privatisation). The second phase started at the end of 2011 and runs to December 2016 (and has spent £23.5 million on the power sector to date, £3 million on privatisation). A proportion of this includes programmes promoting integrated responses to tackling TB-HIV co-infection.</p><p> </p><p>The Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria is the main financing mechanism for the UK’s support to TB and HIV. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/07/2015 answer text <p>Most drugs required to treat Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are donated free of charge by pharmaceutical companies. However, in some cases the drugs need to be purchased. In these cases we work to secure good value for money in our procurement and also encourage flexible approaches to increase availability, such as licensing and technology transfer partnerships with low-cost, high-quality generic manufacturers.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>DFID also funds research into new NTD treatments through Product Development Partnerships (PDPs). PDPs use patents flexibly to ensure products are available at lowest possible cost. This includes negotiating royalty-free access to patented products and developing products as ‘open source’ so that anyone can use them, with requirements for distribution at the lowest possible cost.
