star this property answer text <p>The Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme will provide up to 20,000 women, children and others at risk with a safe and legal route to resettle in the UK.</p><p>The scheme will prioritise those who have assisted UK efforts in Afghanistan and stood up for UK values such as democracy, women’s rights, freedom of speech and rule of law; and vulnerable people such as women and girls at risk, and members of minority groups (including ethnic / religious minorities and LGBT+).</p><p>Those we resettle will be prioritised according to risk and protection need. Further details on referral for resettlement can be found in the recent statement to Parliament on 6 January: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/oral-statement-on-the-afghan-citizens-resettlement-scheme" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/oral-statement-on-the-afghan-citizens-resettlement-scheme</a></p><p>The capacity of the UK to resettle people is not unlimited, and therefore difficult decisions about who will be prioritised for resettlement will have to be made.</p><p>The UK is committed to working with our international partners to protect and promote the human rights of those in Afghanistan including cultural heritage workers, and encourage the international community to share our long-term interest in providing homes for those whose lives are at risk in Afghanistan.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The failings of the Metropolitan Police Service in Operation Midland had devastating consequences for those falsely accused and also risked damaging the confidence of the public.</p><p>That is why the Home Secretary requested, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire &amp; Rescue Services conduct an inspection of the Metropolitan Police Service to ensure lessons have been learned.</p><p>We will continue to seek assurances from the Metropolitan Police that policy and practice is being changed so the failures are not repeated.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>It is important that firearms officers are supported to make the difficult decisions necessary to protect the public, and are able to carry out their duties without fearing that a justified use of force will damage their careers. It is also essential that decisions by the police to use force of any kind are subject to proper scrutiny.</p><p>That was why the previous Home Secretary commissioned officials to review the legal and procedural framework governing police use of firearms and post-incident investigation. star this property answer text <p>Ben Emmerson QC was appointed on 5 September 2014 as Counsel to the Independent Panel Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse. On Thursday 12 March 2015, the Inquiry was set up with statutory powers under the 2005 Inquiries Act. Ben Emmerson QC has remained as Counsel to the statutory Inquiry.</p><p>From 5 September 2014 to 31 March 2015, payments to Mr Emmerson accounted to £177,480 including VAT.</p><p>He is employed on standard terms of appointment. His remuneration is £1,700 per full day and £850 per half day and he is expected to be available to advise the Inquiry for up to 4 days a week.</p><p>The Independent Inquiry is now responsible for publishing its costs on a regular basis.</p> more like this
