The Rapid Response Service offers support including: helping people write CVs and find jobs; providing information about benefits; helping people to find the right training and learn new skills; and helping with costs like travel to work expenses.</p><p> </p><p>We are helping those who have lost jobs in the pandemic through our £238m JETS (Job Entry Targeted Support) programme and have launched a £2bn Kickstart scheme.</p><p> </p><p>Local authorities have been allocated a further £500m in discretionary funding via the Additional Restrictions Grant to support those businesses that are significantly impacted by the restrictions even though they may not be required to close.  This is in addition to £1.1bn already allocated in November 2020.  Local authorities have discretion to use this funding to support businesses in the way they see fit, which could include supporting businesses which supply the retail sector.</p> answering member constituency Sutton and Cheam answering member printed Paul Scully question first answered 02/02/2021 15:34:11 answering member 4414 label Biography information for Paul Scully

The Business Support Helpline provides bespoke advice to anyone who needs it. Currently around 1% of callers to the Helpline state they have a disability. It can send information in large fonts or braille and also provides a text phone service. Material is also available on <a href="http://www.gov.uk" target="_blank">www.gov.uk</a>.</p><p>The Start-Up Loans programme provides loans and mentoring support. It operates through a network of delivery partners who adhere to FCA Regulations on Treating Customers Fairly, which include reference to the treatment of customers with a disability.</p><p>The Department for Work and Pensions’ (DWP) New Enterprise Allowance provides funding and advice to people on certain benefits to help them start their own business. It supported 15,500 people with disabilities between April 2011 and September 2015. As was the case with previous Administrations, it is not the Treasury's practice to provide details of all such discussions.</p><p> </p><p>The Government’s shareholding in the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is managed at arm’s length from Government by UK Financial Investments (UKFI). UKFI is responsible for managing the shareholding on a wholly commercial basis, in a way that creates and protects value for the taxpayer. UKFI is not responsible, for managing the bank itself; RBS retains its own board for strategic and management decisions. The government has given the FCA strong powers to protect consumers. It requires all lenders to treat customers fairly, and to establish appropriate policies for dealing with vulnerable customers, including those with mental health difficulties.</p><p> </p><p>We have passed the honourable lady’s question on to the FCA, who will reply directly to her by letter. Since September 2014, maintained primary schools in England must teach a modern or ancient foreign language to pupils at key stage 2 (ages 7 to 11). Schools can choose which language or languages to teach and should enable pupils to make substantial progress in one language by the end of primary school.</p><p>The government took action in 2010 to halt the decline in the number of school children taking language GCSEs by including it within the English Baccalaureate. This has had a positive effect on the take up of languages in schools. The proportion of the cohort in state funded schools entered for a modern foreign language has risen from 40 per cent in 2010 to 49 per cent in 2015.
