star this property answer text <p>We recognise that the gap between the employment rates of disabled people and non-disabled people remains too large.</p><p>Last year the Work and Health Unit was established to lead the drive for improving work and health outcomes for people with health conditions and disabilities, as well as improving support for people absent from work through ill health and those at risk of leaving workforce.</p><p>The Unit has begun work to build the evidence base of what works to support disabled people and people with health conditions to obtain and remain in work.</p><p>We plan to produce a Green Paper later this year that will explore a range of ways to improve the prospects and transform the lives of disabled people and people with long term health conditions by removing barriers that prevent them from working, and helping ensure that they are able to obtain and remain in work.</p> more like this

We have seen almost 500,000 more disabled people in employment over the past three years. Over the same time we’ve seen the employment rate for disabled people increase by over 4 percentage points, where it now stands at 48 per cent.</p><p>We want to build on this. We are clear that sustained progress calls for action across the areas of welfare, employment and health. Although the Government has an important role to play in leading the way and facilitating change, everyone needs to play their part. That is why we have just published “<em>Improving Lives: The Work, Health and Disability Green Paper</em>”. It sets out the short-term action we intend to take to bring about change, alongside our intention to work with others to change perceptions and transform the culture around disability, health and work. The aim of the public consultation is to spark a proactive, wide-ranging and challenging conversation and build a consensus for change. It includes questions on proposals for longer-term reform over this Parliament and beyond, so that our systems, sectors and social attitudes all work together to help achieve the ambition of halving the disability employment gap.</p>

star this property answer text <p>There is no condition based entitlement to Employment Support Allowance.</p><p>We will be working over the coming months with medical professionals and other stakeholders to develop functional criteria that will help us identify those with the most severe health conditions or disabilities, for whom repeat work capability assessments can be stopped.</p><p>Rather than a list of specific medical conditions, the criteria will be based on identifying claimants with the most severe health conditions or disabilities where it would be unreasonable to expect the individual to undertake any form or amount of work or work-related activity. This change will only apply to those placed in the Support Group and UC equivalent.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence has no established policy relating to time allowed to deliver GCSEs and Level 2 functional skills. Armed Forces Training Establishments follow the Guided Learning Hours (GLH) guidance provided by Education Awarding Bodies. The GLH as identified by the course governing body are used as a starting point when teaching functional skills. Our aim is to provide our trainees with a framework to achieve the qualification with the best possible support, not to achieve it within a certain period of time.</p><p>The Royal Navy normally allocate three weeks for guided learning functional skills courses delivered as part of longer professional skills development training. The GLH for each qualification in the Army is 45 hours; however this can vary depending on individual needs and other factors such as location. Time allocated to functional skills training in the RAF will depend on the establishment delivering the training with some schools allocating between 45 and 64 hours.</p><p>GCSEs are treated as elective courses for Service Personnel and time allocated for GCSEs is dependent on the individual and varies between four weeks for an intensive course and up to 16 weeks for a part time course. Army Personnel can undertake GCSEs or IGCSEs through evening classes run by the Army Education Centres and there will be a set programme linked to the GLH which is usually a minimum of 125 hours. The RAF and Navy offer courses which can be intensive or delivered over an extended period of time delivered by external providers.</p><p>All Armed Forces Training Establishments have the ability to deliver functional skills training and GCSEs flexibly and time allocated is dependent on the individual and their needs as reflected in each individual's learning plan.</p>

The most recent publication is the <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/english-indices-of-deprivation-2010" target="_blank">English Indices of Deprivation 2010</a>, published in March 2011. The devolved administrations each publish their own Indices of Deprivation but there is no UK-wide version. The Department is currently updating the English Indices of Deprivation, for publication in summer 2015.</p> more like this
