star this property answer text <br /><br /><p>Ministry of Defence (MOD) research and development expenditure is published in &quot;Departmental Resources Statistical bulletin&quot; (Excel Table 5), which is available at the following website:</p><br /><p>https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/defence-departmental-resources-2015</p><br /><p>There is no fixed forward budget for research and development because development expenditure is mostly part of the equipment programme applied as needed against the development requirements of individual projects. The government will dedicate 1.2% of its growing Defence budget to the Defence Science and Technology Programme, the centralised research budget, under the Department's Chief Scientific Adviser.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>HMS Illustrious, the last of three Invincible class aircraft carriers, will retire from the Royal Navy on 1 August 2014. As I informed the House on 10 September 2012 (Official Report ,column 1WS), in recognition of the service given by these ships in protecting the UK over the last 30 years, it is our preference to see HMS Illustrious preserved intact as a lasting tribute to the Service personnel who served on all three of the carriers.<br><br>In October 2013 the Ministry of Defence’s Disposal Services Authority launched a competition to seek innovative reuse bids to retain HMS Illustrious in the UK, with part or all of it developed for heritage purposes, which could include tourism. The competition is ongoing and therefore no final decisions have been made on the ship’s future.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The effectiveness of small arms is regularly reviewed, with current performance routinely compared to other equipment used by military peers and developed by industry. The requirement for small arms to achieve defined levels of reliability is set prior to procurement and tested prior to purchase. Equipment already in service is continually reviewed, with any emerging issues investigated to resolution.</p> more like this
