Clinical academics are doctors and dentists (including consultants and general practitioners) who are employed by higher education institutions, or other organisations, in a research and/or teaching capacity and who also provide services for National Health Service patients as part of honorary NHS contracts. Service consultants are employed by NHS organisations.
