Telephone appointments are delivered by the Pension Advisory Service and can be accessed in any part of the UK through free, outbound telephone calls. Face-to-face appointments are delivered by over 500 Citizens Advice bureau locations, two of which are in Bristol, on Quay Street and Broad Street. The Hon. star this property answer text <p>The Government is currently introducing historic and fundamental changes to social care funding which will mean that more people receive help with the costs of social care. Central to these reforms will be a cap on reasonable care costs set at £72,000 from April 2016 and an extension of means tested support. These will give financial support to more people and will ensure that nobody will face the prospect of unlimited care costs. In addition a universal offer of deferred payment agreements will come into force from April 2015 which means nobody will be forced to sell their home in their lifetime to pay for care.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <ul><li><p>The Government has no plans to make refunds of Class 3 voluntary National Insurance contributions paid prior to publication of the White Paper “Security in retirement – towards a new pensions system” which was published on 25 May 2006 and proposed a reduction in the number of qualifying years for a State Pension to 30, which eventually came into force from 6 April 2010. As these contributions were correctly paid at the time and cannot be refunded.</p><p> </p><p>Individuals who made voluntary National Insurance contributions between 25 May 2006 and 26 July 2007 (or 11 February 2008 in the case of Northern Ireland), but would have chosen not to do so had they been aware of the Government's intention to reduce the number of qualifying years required for a full basic State Pension to 30, may be entitled to a refund because the contributions could have been paid in error.</p><p> </p><p>From 6 April 2016 the number of qualifying years needed for the new State Pension will increase to 35.</p></li></ul><p> </p>

star this property answer text <p><strong>As shown in HMRC's published statistics (Table PEN3 available here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/259967/pen3.pdf), in 2011-12 around 20,000 unemployed adults made or received contributions into their personal pensions. 6,000 of these individuals made use of the non-earnings pension contribution limit of £3,600 including basic rate tax relief. </strong></p><p> </p><p><strong>A further 10,000 children, 10,000 individuals in full time education and 10,000 carers made or received contributions into their personal pensions. Of these, around a quarter made use of the non-earnings pension contribution limit. </strong></p><p> </p><p><strong>Of the individuals mentioned above who made use of the non-earnings pension contribution limit in 2011-12, around two thirds were female.</strong></p><p> </p><p><strong>The Government has made no assessment of the effects of increasing the limit on couples saving together for retirement but keeps all tax policies under review.</strong></p><p> </p>
