unstar this property answer text <p>Centre for Health and Disability Assessments currently have135 recording devices available to Assessment Centres as required. Not all Assessment Centres currently hold recording equipment permanently on site as the demand to record assessments is currently low. In October 2017 less than 1% of claimants asked to have their assessment recorded. Despite the very low number of requests, DWP is still making this service available.</p><p> </p><p>Claimants are required to notify Centre for Health and Disability Assessments in advance if they want their assessment recorded and Centre for Health and Disability Assessments will ensure that recording equipment is made available at the assessment centre, including transferring the equipment to sites if required. Since Centre for Health and Disability Assessments took over the contract to deliver Work Capability Assessments there has not been a need to purchase new recording units so an up-to-date cost estimate cannot be provided.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Department estimates that around 270,000 cases need to be looked at again and that around 75,000 of those cases (5% of the population transferred over from incapacity benefits) may have been underpaid. The Department has already started contacting individuals to establish if there has been an underpayment of premiums and a small number of claims have already been corrected and the arrears that are due have been paid. The Department expects to complete the review and correct cases by April 2019. We will update the House shortly.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>There has never been a Mandatory Reconsideration target for upholding original decisions.</p><p>The 80 per cent figure, which was used in the answer to a recent Freedom of Information request, was an internal measurement only used to indicate areas where the quality of initial decisions may not be meeting our expected high standards, therefore enabling us to investigate and address if required.</p><p> </p><p>Mandatory Reconsideration is a critical element our process and it is essential that claimants have confidence in it. Given the anxiety and confusion the 80 per cent figure has caused, we will therefore be using different ways of assuring quality going forwards.</p> more like this

These payments will be paid from 21/10/2014 which is the Departments mandatory statutory requirement with regard to payment of arrears when a court or tribunal establishes the meaning of a legislative provision. Under this provision DWP will pay arrears from the date of the court or tribunal decision, which in this case is the 21/10/2014. The rule was most recently confirmed by Parliament in section 27 of the Social Security Act 1998, which received Royal Assent on 21 May 1998.</p> more like this

There are currently no plans to review this approach. Claimants may be able to claim Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support or Universal Credit while they are waiting for a decision on their mandatory reconsideration.</p> more like this
