star this property answer text <p>Official figures show that total international and rest of the UK exports in 2016 (excluding oil and gas) were estimated at £75.6 billion. Exports to the rest of the UK accounted for 61 per cent of this total (or £45.8bn) and international exports accounted for 39 per cent (or £29.8bn).</p><p> </p><p>Both the European Union (EU) and the individual EU countries are members of the WTO. The EU has bilateral trade and investment relationships with a great number of countries, including Scotland’s top international export destination valued at £4.8bn, the USA.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>As we prepare to leave the European Union, we want to send a message to the world that the UK and Scotland remain open for business, and free to shape our own ambitious trade and investment opportunities across the globe.</p><p> </p><p>Earlier this month, I took that message to Burma and Singapore, promoting Scotland’s business interests and exports, including with the energy, financial services and whisky sectors. The Scotland Office will continue to work with the Department of International Trade and other UK Government departments to promote the UK and Scotland to the world.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Scottish Government statistics have revealed that trade with the rest of the UK is worth over four times more to Scotland than its trade with the rest of the EU. The UK Government has sought to inform people about the important trading relationship that Scotland and the rest of the UK enjoy, and the relative scale of Scotland’s trade with the rest of the UK as compared to its trade with the rest of the EU. The term ‘exports’ to describe this intra-UK trade is used in the Scottish Government’s own publication, <em>“Export Statistics Scotland 2015”</em>, which is based on the results of the Global Connections Survey.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The business case for High Speed 2 assumes two HS2 trains per hour between London and Scotland for 16 hours per day, providing a total of 34,000 seats between London-Glasgow and London-Edinburgh on HS2 (splitting or joining at Carstairs) in both directions each day.</p><p> </p><p>These trains will use the West Coast Main Line and HS2 Western Leg, rather than the East Coast Main Line. There will, however, be a connection onto the East Coast Main Line at Church Fenton allowing HS2 trains to connect London and the West Midlands to York and the North East. Final decisions on the train service will be made closer to the opening of HS2.</p> more like this
