The department recently produced guides, aimed specifically at commercial drivers, to help reduce the severity and impact of a diesel spill. Highways England is also looking at ways to improve how our own staff and service providers respond and deal with spillages. In April 2019, the department commenced a research project to understand the causes of fire in commercial vehicles.</p><p> </p><p>The department does not have evidence of what role litter plays in these incidents. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/06/2019 answer text <p>The Department for Transport supports the development of routes where there is high propensity for increasing functional cycling and walking journeys in a cost-effective way in line with the Government’s Cycling and Walking Strategy, and we are working with 46 local authorities to develop Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans.</p><p> </p><p>In doing this, the department needs to take account of additional liabilities resulting from any granting of public access to, or transfer of, parts of the Historical Rail Estate that could create short or long-term improvement or maintenance costs to Highways England. The decisions to expand ePassport gate eligibility and remove the requirement to complete a landing card were taken after careful consideration and in consultation with security partners across Government.</p><p>Landing cards were primarily used to collect statistics and not used for routine security checks. The Government remains reassured, on the basis of direct expert engagement, that this change will not impact on border security. The additional nationalities that can now benefit from use of the ePassport gates were identified as suitable based on a variety of factors, including immigration abuse, security, cooperation on border matters and prosperity.</p><p>Analysis has shown that allowing these additional nationalities to use the ePassport gates provides them with more efficient entry into the UK, whilst not significantly increasing waiting times for existing ePassport gate users. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/07/2019 answer text <p>The Government are investing nearly £1.5bn‎ between April 2015 and March 2021 to support the transition to ultra-low emission vehicles. Through this funding, commercial organisations are able to take advantage of various grants to help buy plug-in cars, vans, lorries, buses, taxis and motorcycles, alongside schemes to support charge point infrastructure at homes, workplaces and on residential streets.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Government leadership is vital. At the 2017 Autumn Budget, the Government made a commitment that 25% of central government cars will be ultra-low emission by 2022, followed by a further commitment in last year’s Road to Zero strategy that 100% will be ultra-low emission by 2030. In December 2017, the Government updated the Government Buying Standards for transport, including this new commitment. The Government Car Service, managed by the Department for Transport, is on track to meet the targets, with electric vehicles making up 23% of the entire fleet today. The Transport Secretary has written to every government department to reinforce the 2022 pledge. This provided detailed guidance on how each department can drive the transition in their own fleet and asked them to publish a yearly progress report.
