unstar this property answer text
The Government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of UK and EU citizens. Our intention remains to establish a comprehensive and legally binding agreement on internal security which would enable continuing cooperation based on EU measures.

However, we are preparing for all eventualities. In a no-deal scenario, UK law enforcement agencies will use well-established alternative mechanisms to co-operate with partners on a police-to-police basis. This will include use of the INTERPOL secure network and pre-existing bi-lateral channels to facilitate police cooperation on child abduction cases.
more like this

unstar this property answer text
Family members of any member of the UK Armed Forces, regardless of the nationality of the service person, can apply for settlement in the UK under the Immigration Rules contained in Appendix Armed Forces.

The eligibility criteria for family members of members of the Forces are set out in full online in Appendix Armed Forces:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration-rules/immigration-rules-appendix-armed-forces

This makes clear that to be eligible for settlement in the UK requires the following criteria to be met. Partners of members of the Forces must have completed a period of 60 months limited leave under Appendix Armed Forces – sometimes called the “probationary period”. Partners and over-18 children must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the English language and knowledge about life in the UK. Their sponsor in the Forces must meet the appropriate minimum income thresholds to sponsor a partner or children, and the applicant must not fall for refusal on suitability grounds.

unstar this property answer text
To ensure overcrowding does not happen accommodation providers must comply with national and local housing regulations including those regarding room sharing. The accommodation contracts set out who may share a room, which includes allowing room sharing for couples, unrelated adults of the same sex and related children depending on their genders and ages.

Providers are contractually required to take account of any particular circumstances and vulnerability of those that they accommodate and an assessment is made on a case-by-case basis depending on the specific needs of the individual. All of our properties are inspected by the providers on a monthly basis, in addition to regular inspections carried out by Home Office officials. Where there are licensing requirements, local authorities also conduct inspections.
The statement of requirements showing the requirements for accommodation sizes and room sharing can be found at https://data.gov.uk/data/contracts-finder-archive/contract/503107/

unstar this property answer text
The Home Office remains committed to publishing information on the number of people claiming asylum on the basis of sexual orientation.

On 29 November 2018, the Home Office published experimental statistics on Asylum claims made on the basis of sexual orientation, covering the period 2015 to 2017.

These experimental statistics provide data on asylum claims from 2015-2017, by year of application, initial decision, appeal receipt, or appeal decision

The experimental statistics can be found at:
https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/immigration-statistics-year-ending-december-2018-data-tables

SOC_00: Applications, initial decisions, and appeals for main applicants, for whom sexual orientation formed a basis of their claim

2015

2016

2017

Applications

1,768

2,212

1,936

Initial decisions

1,584

1,845

1,887

Of which:

Grants

620

497

423

Refusals

964

1,348

1,464

Appeal lodged

857

1,103

1,306

Appeals determined

515

916

1,477

Of which:

Allowed

167

341

487

Dismissed

324

553

951

These are the latest data available, and the next planned update to these statistics is in August 2019.

Data published in this release relate to the number of asylum claims made where sexual orientation formed part of the basis of the claim. The data does not represent the number of asylum claimants who define themselves as LGB. Having an identifier that an asylum case is based on sexual orientation does not indicate that a claimant has any particular sexuality or that sexual orientation is the reason for any grant or refusal of asylum. It also does not signify whether that aspect of the claim has been accepted. Sexual orientation as a basis of claim could be due to imputed assertions or association rather than a defining characteristic of the claimant.

The Home Office do not record data on asylum claims based on gender identity or expression. The option to record this data remains under review. Historically the number of gender identity-based asylum claims has been low.

The Home Office is developing dedicated policy guidance for caseworkers considering gender identity and expression (including intersex) issues raised as the basis of an asylum claim.
