	answer	answer answer text <p>The Elizabeth Tower refurbishment project, with a budget of £61 million jointly funded by the two Houses, is intended to conserve and prevent further deterioration of the Elizabeth Tower, including the Great Clock; ensure its fire safety compliance; improve the health and safety of the Elizabeth Tower for Members, staff and the public; improve the security and the efficiency of emergency evacuations; and improve the efficiency of the tours in the Elizabeth Tower. No works are required to be undertaken on the Great Bell (“Big Ben”) itself. The project is due for completion in 2021.</p><p><br>Work on the project is progressing well. For instance, all elements of the Great Clock, and all cast iron roof components, have been removed from the Tower for conservation work and glazing, gilding and paint stripping work are continuing. Work on restoring the original colour scheme for the clock dials is well advanced. Arrangements have been made to ensure the Great Bell is sounded to mark Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, and to ring in the New Year on New Year’s Eve. <br> <br>The Finance Committee receives regular updates on the progress of the project.</p><p> </p> question first answered 07/01/2019 13:17:32 answering member 4148

	answer	answer answer text <p>Yes, Black Rod was consulted on the closure of College Green. The Green is owned by the House of Commons but day to day access is delegated by the Clerk of the House to Black Rod. Current policy is to allow public access to the Green to enable the public to pass through on the paths or to use it as a recreational space. It is also longstanding policy also to allow the media to use the Green for the contemporaneous news reporting of events within Parliament. Broadcasters are not charged to use the Green as is it considered to be in Parliament’s and the national interest that they should be facilitated to report on Parliament. Nevertheless, the government will continue to do the responsible thing and prepare for all eventualities.</p><p> </p><p>As part of these preparations, the Department for Digital Culture, Media and Sport has held a series of ministerial roundtables with the creative sector on the impacts of the UK’s exit from the EU, which have been attended by representatives from the music industry, regarding touring musicians and crews in particular. 	answer	answer answer text <p>The UK government’s White Paper, ‘The Future Relationship Between the United Kingdom and the European Union’ set out an ambitious future relationship with the EU on data protection that builds on standard EU adequacy arrangements to provide for ongoing regulatory cooperation between the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and the EU Data Protection Authorities that make up the European Data Protection Board (EDPB). The White Paper can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-future-relationship-between-the-united-kingdom-and-the-european-union.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Political Declaration sets out that the UK and the EU should make arrangements for cooperation between the ICO and the EU Data Protection Authorities.</p><p> </p><p>The UK will continue to have high standards of data protection and there will be no immediate change in the UK’s data protection standards. 	answer	answer answer text <p>Our apprenticeship reforms are placing employers at the heart of ensuring that they have the right skills in their workforce to grow their business and to increase their productivity. However, we do recognise that some sectors and employers, including in the creative industries, experience challenges in taking advantage of the apprenticeship reforms.</p><p>Improving quality is a fundamental part of our reforms to apprenticeships. We are making sure that apprenticeships are high quality, industry recognised and delivered by quality providers. Apprenticeship standards are being developed by employers themselves to ensure their relevance. Over 70 employers are involved in developing new apprenticeship standards in the creative and digital industries sectors. There are 32 creative and design and digital industries standards currently available, with 38 more in development.</p><p>As part of the Creative Industries Sector Deal, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport is supporting the creative careers strategy by working with the Institute for Apprenticeships on the development of apprenticeship standards, classifying areas where there are skills gaps identified as Industrial Strategy priorities.</p><p>We have introduced the apprenticeship levy to encourage sustained employer investment in high quality apprenticeships and are carefully monitoring the impact of the levy in different sectors. 	answer	answer answer text <p>It is a priority of this Government to enable an innovative, productive and competitive food supply chain, which invests in its people and skills. Defra is working closely with industry and other Government departments to understand labour demand and supply for the food and catering sectors, including both permanent and seasonal workforce requirements.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has been clear that free movement between the UK and EU will end. Defra is working closely with the Home Office to ensure that there is a long term strategy for the food and farming workforce as part of the future immigration policy, with a smooth transition as the UK leaves the EU.</p><p> </p><p>The Immigration White Paper, published on 19 December 2018, sets out the foundation for a single immigration system, where it is workers’ skills that matter, not where they come from. The Government has also made it clear that it will continue to welcome workers from the European Union who are already here in the UK and those who come here in the future who meet the immigration requirements.</p><p> </p><p>Defra is also working with industry to raise awareness of the career opportunities within the agriculture and food industry to attract domestic workers, and is exploring the potential for innovation and automation and their impact on future labour demands.</p> question first answered 09/01/2019 11:45:42 answering member 4161
