unstar this property answer text <p>Political parties are responsible for their candidate selection and should lead the way in improving diverse representation, including from people with disabilities, at General Elections.</p><p>Successive recent UK Governments have helped in this process. An Access to Elected Office Fund ran on a pilot basis from 2012 to 2015, and was followed by the EnAble Fund launched in 2018 as an interim measure to allow political parties time to put in place more support. We welcome the positive steps taken by some political parties to support their disabled candidates and encourage all parties to embrace this approach.</p><p> </p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Attempts to ‘cure’ somebody of their sexual orientation or gender identity, otherwise known as conversion therapies, are wrong. This Government will deliver on the LGBT Action Plan, including the commitment to end conversion therapy and we have commissioned research into the experiences of those who have been subjected to this abhorrent practice.</p><p>These are complex issues that we are approaching sensitively. We are engaging widely before bringing forward proposals, and we will set out our next steps in the coming months to ensure that the actions we take are proportionate and effective.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>We have had two successful years of gender pay gap reporting so far, with over 10,000 employers publishing their data both years. Reporting provides an unprecedented level of transparency whilst driving board level discussions and pushing employers to take real action to close the gap.</p><p>We are keeping a close eye on progress to ensure that the legislation delivers on its aims, but it is important that we give the new regulations sufficient time to embed, to see how employers are responding and what actions they are taking, before considering any changes.</p><p> </p> more like this

Member in the time available before Dissolution.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The Government recognises that disabled people are likely to face greater costs when seeking elected office due to their disability. That is why we launched the EnAble Fund for Elected Office to help cover disability related expenses. As an interim fund it gave political parties the time to put in place measures to support disabled candidates.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial"> The Fund is time limited and was put in place for elections that had been planned. Therefore, funding has not been scheduled for this election. Retrospective support, as with this year’s European Parliamentary Elections, could be considered for candidates but this would be for the next Government to decide.</ins></p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Gender Pay Gap among all employees in the UK continues to decline, currently at a record low of 17.3%.</p><p> </p><p>This year, mandatory reporting regulations have seen over 10,000 employers report their gender pay gap for the second time, with around half of all employers in-scope of the regulations publishing action plans.</p><p> </p><p>To close the gap entirely we need a much wider cultural change, which can’t be imposed from above. We strongly encourage all employers to publish action plans, prompting discussions about the drivers of the pay gap in their organisations. To support employers, we have published advice on how to diagnose their gaps and develop an effective action plan, alongside evidence-based guidance on practical actions they can take to close the gap. We actively disseminate this guidance to employers throughout the year to ensure they have the information they need to create an action plan.</p><p> </p><p>This position is kept under review. If we do not think that employers are making enough progress, we will act.</p>

unstar this property answer text <p>No one should suffer unfair treatment because of their gender. Every year International Men’s Day offers an opportunity to highlight how outcomes for men and boys can be improved and to talk about some of the important work going on every day across Government to do this.</p><p> </p><p>The work ranges from the introduction of shared parental leave, which allows men to take time away from the workplace and bond with their new children, benefitting that crucial long-term relationship for both parent and child, to our programme tackling LGBT bullying in schools which seeks to protect those who may be victimised by outdated and stereotypical ideas of what it means to be a ‘real man’.</p><p> </p><p>Government is also working with local authorities to ensure their suicide prevention plans support more men and, in the Domestic Abuse Bill, we propose to create a statutory definition of domestic abuse that makes clear men also can be victims of this abhorrent crime.</p><p> </p><p>As with International Women’s Day in March every year, the Government Equalities Office does not coordinate or facilitate activities to be undertaken by other Government Departments.</p><p> </p>

unstar this property answer text <p>The Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties and Public Bodies) regulations introduced mandatory gender pay gap reporting in 2017 to large public sector employers in England and non-devolved authorities. The threshold of 250 employees was determined following a public consultation and mirrors the requirements for employers in the private and voluntary sectors. The employee threshold and other aspects of the reporting metrics is under review to assess their effectiveness in exposing the causes of the pay gap in individual organisations and employers’ progress in tackling them. We will use this evidence to consider changes to the reporting legislation, consulting on any proposed amendments by 2021.</p><p> </p><p>Equal pay statements are not required outside of Scotland and the policy is therefore not subject to review by central Government. However, in 2020 we will review the enforcement of equal pay legislation more broadly, to ensure it is working as effectively as possible.</p> more like this

Instead, we are constantly working across government to monitor progress against commitments made in the Roadmap. Next year, we will publish our one year on progress report.
