	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/01/2020 answer text <p>The Government, local authorities, the wider public sector, charities, commercial organisations and civil society all have a role in supporting the Armed Forces community. While this includes support to veterans in the areas of employment, healthcare, housing, education, and financial advice, it is also about recognising how Government can make a positive difference for those in the front line of our nation's Defence. Whilst the Ministry of Defence gave statutory foundation to the Armed Forces Covenant in the 2011 Armed Forces Act, with a requirement on the Defence Secretary to report annually to Parliament, this Government has recognized more must be done to ensure the Armed Forces community suffer no disadvantage. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/11/2020 answer text <p>Ministry of Defence (MOD) Ministers regularly discuss the Armed Forces Covenant with local authorities and representative bodies. MOD officials have written to Chief Executives and included local authorities from across the UK in group discussions on the Secretary of State's legislative proposals, to gather views and explain the impact of legislation, particularly with regard to new burdens. Individual meetings are also held with local authorities who request them. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/11/2020 answer text <p>The Director of Armed Forces People Policy wrote to the Chief Executives and Council Leaders of a number of Local Authorities to inform them of the Government’s draft legislative proposal. This was at the request of some regional focus group members, as part of the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) policy development to further incorporate the Armed Forces Covenant into law. I have placed a copy of this letter in the Library of the House.
