In July 2023, as part of the review, the department held a workshop with teachers. The former Minister for Schools also chaired roundtable meetings with a panel of experts and with families to explore the inclusion of suicide prevention in the curriculum.</p><p> </p><p>The department will publish an amended draft of the statutory guidance for consultation at the earliest opportunity. The Department expects the Panel to report back regularly.</p><p>The Department expects that any engagement with schools undertaken by the Panel will be prioritised to ensure relevant activity takes place before the school holidays. The Department has already engaged with parent groups as part of the review and will facilitate their engagement with the Panel.</p><p>The terms of reference stipulate that the Panel will identify the topics within the relationships, sex and health education curriculum which would benefit from age limits. The Panel will bring together expertise on health, teaching, curriculum development, and safeguarding. It will advise on the application of suitable age limits for some topics to ensure pupils are protected from inappropriate concepts they are too young to understand. In doing so, it will draw on wider expertise on specific matters. The Panel will be independent and make its own recommendations to the Secretary of State for Education on age restrictions, including whether some topics are unsuitable. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/06/2023 answer text <p>The statutory guidance for relationships, sex and health education (RSHE) does not address teaching about the views of Andrew Tate directly, but it emphasises that schools should be aware of issues such as everyday sexism, misogyny, homophobia and gender stereotypes.</p><p>Schools should take positive action to build a culture where these are not tolerated, and any occurrences are identified and tackled. The guidance is clear that schools should make clear that sexual harassment is not acceptable, will never be tolerated, and is not an inevitable part of growing up. It covers a number of public health topics, including healthy eating, the importance of exercise and teaching children about how to look after their mental health.</p><p>The Department has contracted with IFF Research to undertake quantitative and qualitative research into the quality of implementation, including teacher confidence in teaching the statutory requirements.</p><p>The findings from this research will inform the review of the RSHE statutory guidance which is underway, and will consider what improvements might need to be made. The Department anticipates that the final report from IFF Research will be published in early 2024. The review announced by the Department in March 2023 will be focused on the content of the statutory relationships, sex and health education (RSHE) guidance. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/08/2022 answer text <p>Education is a devolved matter, and the response outlines the information for England only.</p><p>The relationships and sex education (RSE) and health education statutory guidance clearly sets out the content that should be covered in the topics of basic first aid and health and prevention, at both primary and secondary school. The guidance is available at: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/relationships-education-relationships-and-sex-education-rse-and-health-education" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/relationships-education-relationships-and-sex-education-rse-and-health-education</a>. The subjects have been designed to build knowledge and support the development of pupils’ self-control and their ability to self-regulate, as well as providing strategies for doing so.</p><p>Health education covers aspects of self-care such as dental hygiene and personal hygiene. It also has a strong focus on mental wellbeing, including a recognition that mental wellbeing and physical health are linked. The aim is to give pupils the information they need to make good decisions about their own health and wellbeing, including self-care, and to recognise the early signs of mental wellbeing concerns, including common types of mental ill health.</p><p>To support schools to deliver this content effectively, the department has produced teacher training modules which are free to download from GOV.UK.
