Universal Credit makes it easier for people to move into work and keep more of what they earn.</p><p>We have listened to concerns and as a result ensured that claimants can access 100% advance payments on day one of a Universal Credit claim and continue to receive Housing Benefit for two weeks after transitioning.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Wales has the potential to lead in hydrogen generation technology and the UK Government is committed to ensuring that Wales plays its full part in delivering the UK’s future energy mix. I recently saw the leading role Wales can play in this area when I visited Riversimple, a hydrogen car manufacturer based in Powys.</p><p> </p><p>UK Research and Innovation also continues to support the South Wales Industrial Cluster with £170million of funding as part of the Industrial Decarbonisation challenge. The Cluster will play its part in developing options for decarbonising the region’s industrial base, including the use of hydrogen.</p><p> </p><p>I regularly discuss a range of issues with the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and earlier this month BEIS Ministers and I met with companies looking to expand hydrogen production in Wales.</p><p> </p><p>The Government aims to consult on a preferred business model for low-carbon hydrogen production in 2021. This will be key to stimulating the deployment of hydrogen across the UK.</p>

star this property answer text <p>I wrote to the First Minister last week to seek urgent clarification on the additional travel restrictions placed by the Welsh Government on people travelling to Wales from England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. This included the evidence on which the restrictions are based and how the measures will be enforced.</p><p> </p><p>I have not yet received a detailed response from the First Minister to the questions I have asked. There is a lack of clarity on many aspects of the new restrictions. I remain concerned about how the Welsh Government intends to enforce its new regulations and the impacts of any enforcement measures on the resources of Welsh police forces.</p> more like this

I am deeply disappointed by the First Minister’s decision, particularly as the UK Government had already enabled the Welsh Government to borrow the money needed to fund this vital road and we confirmed we would review increasing that amount even further had it been needed.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The New Decade, New Approach financial agreement reflects the unique circumstances faced by Northern Ireland and supports the incoming Executive to tackle these. The UK Government is committed to supporting all parts of the UK, including delivering increased funding for Wales, and will continue to do so. The 2019 Spending Round provided the biggest day-to-day funding settlement for Wales in a decade with over £17bn in 2020-21 for the Welsh Government, an increase of over £600m. The UK Government’s infrastructure revolution combined with increased funding for areas like the NHS in England will deliver significant increases to the budgets of the Scottish and Welsh Governments.</p><p><strong> </strong></p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to ensuring that no area is left behind when it comes to increased capital investment for Wales. The Government has already secured substantial amounts of investment to improve the infrastructure in Wales, such as the new Intercity Express Trains on Great Western Main Line worth £5.7 billion, up to £58 million for the upgrade of Cardiff Central station and £4 million towards reopening Bow Street station. £69 million has been allocated for the rollout of superfast broadband across Wales and at Autumn Budget we announced a further £200 million for broadband for the hardest to reach areas and Wales will be included in the first phase of this work.</p><p>Nevertheless, there is more that we can do and I will continue to work with the Welsh Government, other UK Government departments to agree how to strengthen the Welsh economy and provide greater connectivity, ensuring that all interests are included when it comes to capital investment in Wales.</p> more like this
