	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/04/2023 answer text <p>As of 31 March 2023, Defence Equipment and Support (DE&amp;S) employed 11,972 permanent staff.</p><p> </p><p>Figures for permanent staff include both civilian and military personnel. In addition, 1,107 contractors are employed as Contingent Labour which is used to fill funded posts within DE&amp;S on a short-term basis.</p><p> </p><p>Contractors are also engaged to provide Private Sector Support (PSS), which is defined by DE&amp;S as external support to supplement DE&amp;S capacity and capability to manage its programme of work. It may also include support to business improvement and change programmes. Implementation of the DE&amp;S Gateway is currently in progress. Iterative improvement will continue between initial implementation and stabilisation of the new Operating Model.
