star this property answer text <p>The Autumn Statement 2022 announced additional funding of £2 billion in both 2023/24 and 2024/25, over and above totals announced at the Spending Review 2021. This means funding for mainstream schools and high needs is £3.5 billion higher in 2023/24, compared to 2022/23. That is on top of the £4 billion, year on year increase provided in 2022/23. This is an increase of £7.5 billion, or over 15%, in just two years.</p><p>This additional funding will enable headteachers to continue to allocate budgets to areas that positively impact educational attainment, including high quality teaching and targeted support to the children who need it most, as well as help schools to manage higher costs, including higher energy bills.</p><p>All schools and academies have the freedom to choose how to spend their core funding according to their own unique circumstances and priorities, providing that all expenditure ultimately benefits their students. The Department does not allocate specific budgets for each subject. It is for schools to decide the allocation of resources at an individual school level.</p><p>Geography is part of the statutory National Curriculum for maintained schools at Key Stages 1, 2 and 3. Within geography, the National Curriculum and subject content for GCSE sets out requirements for teaching human geography including economic, global and international development.</p><p>Citizenship is also part of the statutory National Curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4. As part of citizenship, pupils will learn about Parliament, the importance of voting and elections, the role of police, courts and justice, free press, human rights and international law and the governments of other countries, both democratic and non-democratic. They are also taught the actions citizens can take in democratic and electoral processes to influence decisions locally, nationally and beyond.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to providing a world class education system for all pupils and has funded significantly in education to achieve that.</p><p>The Department does not specifically fund Initial Teacher Training on international development.</p><p>Schools receive core funding, to cover all the core running costs of a school. Overall, funding for both mainstream schools and high needs increased by £4 billion in 2022/23 compared to the previous year. Total funding for mainstream schools was £53.8 billion in the 2022/23 financial year.</p><p>All schools and academies have the freedom to choose how to spend their core funding according to their own unique circumstances and priorities, providing that all expenditure ultimately benefits their pupils. In recent months, DFID has announced three initiatives which demonstrate the UK’s continuing commitment to improving access to education in developing countries.</p><p>a) The Inclusive Education Initiative to support marginalised children, particularly those with disabilities, who find it the hardest to attend school.</p><p>b) In Nigeria, the Partnership for Learning for All programme, which will benefit up to 2 million children through improved teaching, school quality and education delivery.</p><p>c) The global Education Technology Hub, which is researching solutions that work in low-income settings to increase access to learning materials and help improve how children learn.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In alignment with the Global Goal for education (SDG4), DFID is helping tackle the learning crisis: millions of children unable to read and do maths despite years at school. DFID works to strengthen the quality of education and the effectiveness of education systems so that all children have access and opportunity to learn.</p><p> </p><p>UNESCO is the UN’s specialized agency for education and UN lead on SDG4. DFID works with UNESCO towards our shared goal of ensuring quality education for all. DFID provides a voluntary contribution of £7.8m to support the UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS) and the UNESCO published Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM Report). The UIS provides comparable, publicly available data on learning outcomes. The GEM Report is an independent, policy focused monitoring report, it is a key tool for pushing progress towards the Global Goals.</p><p> </p><p>Our support to the UIS and the GEM Report is being used to create vital data, evidence and tools to assess whether children are learning, who is being left behind and whether SDG4 is being achieved. It allows the international community to report progress on SDG4 education indicators on learning and equity and enables policy makers to know whether SDG4 is on track and where to direct policy intervention.</p>

star this property answer text <p>We are one of the largest bilateral donors to education globally</p><p><br>Between 2015 and 2019 we supported 14.3 million children to gain a decent education of which at least 5.8m were girls.</p><p>DFID’s focus is on ensuring that children have access to a quality education.</p><p>My ambition is that DFID increases the number of its education specialists in the field to support the major shift required in education systems and teaching to deliver improved learning for children.</p> more like this

These reports resonate well with DFID’s Education Policy: <em>Get Children Learning.</em> The UK will continue to support 12 years of quality education for girls and boys, starting with the basics of literacy and numeracy.</p><p> </p><p>To achieve this, we:</p><p>a) Drive improvements in teaching which benefit all children in the classroom;</p><p>b) Support ambitious system reform which helps teachers succeed and keeps children safe; and</p><p>c) Provide targeted support to disadvantaged girls, children with disabilities and those affected by conflict and crisis.</p><p> </p><p>We use our leadership on the world stage to shine a spotlight on the needs of the most marginalised and strengthen the multilateral system of support for education.</p> more like this
