	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/06/2019 answer text <p>Government officials worked closely with Returning Officers and the Electoral Commission and<br>other agencies such as the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE) and the<br>Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA) to support the smooth running of the polls on 23<br>May</p><p>Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) are under a statutory duty to ensure people who are eligible<br>to vote in elections have the opportunity to do so. For the recent European Parliamentary elections<br>that included making sure relevant citizens of the EU who are resident in the UK and registered to<br>vote in local elections were made aware they needed to complete a voter registration and<br>declaration form (commonly referred to as a UC1 or EC6 form) in order to enable them to vote</p><p>The Electoral Commission supported EROs in the discharge of this function and encouraged them<br>to take additional steps to raise awareness of this requirement locally, through social media<br>channels and other means.</p><p>The Electoral Commission supported EROs in the discharge of this function. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/06/2019 answer text <p>The Government took all the legal steps necessary to prepare for the European Parliamentary<br>elections and put in place all the legislative and funding elements to enable Returning Officers to<br>make their preparations required for the polls on 23 May</p><p>Electoral Registration Officers are responsible for administering elections at the local level. They<br>are also under a statutory duty to ensure people who are eligible to vote in elections have the<br>opportunity to do so and are supported by the Electoral Commission in delivering these functions</p><p>The Electoral Commission encouraged EROs to take additional steps to raise awareness of this<br>requirement locally, through social media channels and other means.</p><p>The Electoral Commission supported EROs in the discharge of this function. I raised human rights concerns with State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi during my last visit to China. We also raise issues publicly, for example, we registered our concerns about human rights in China in our national statements at recent sessions of the UN Human Rights Council and through our activity at China’s last Universal Periodic Review in November 2018.</p><p> </p><p>British diplomats in Beijing have reported increased censorship and surveillance of citizens in China in the weeks leading up to 4 June. This is a common pattern they observe in the run up to the 4 June anniversary. In recent years, the Chinese authorities have also focused on censoring discussion on the anniversary on social media in China, which has reportedly included some Western news websites being restricted more than usual within China around this period. The British Embassy in China experienced such censorship first hand this week; the Embassy posted my statement in English and Chinese through social media, which was then censored within a few minutes.</p><p> </p><p>We remain concerned by all restrictions on freedom of expression in China and urge the authorities to safeguard citizens’ rights to freedom of speech and expression. It is crucial that governments allow their societies and citizens to remember, debate and discuss important historical events, even when this is uncomfortable for the governments concerned.</p><p> </p><p>The British Government also remains committed to making representations to the Chinese Government on the rights of relatives of protestors. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/06/2019 answer text <p>The DWP and DHSC Joint Work and Health Unit is overseeing progress across 40 recommendations that were made in <em>Thriving at Work: The Stevenson / Farmer review of mental health and employers</em> published in October 2017 these range from short term deliverables to longer term reform. Government is committed to working with the authors of the review and key stakeholders across the public, private and voluntary sectors to ensure that employers of all sizes act to implement the core and enhanced standards and help them, and their employees, realise the benefits of healthy, inclusive workplaces.</p><p>One of the review’s recommendations was about transparency as a significant opportunity to encourage cultural change around mental health. We have worked with partners, including employers, to develop a framework to support organisations to record and voluntarily report information on disability and mental health in the workplace. This framework was published on 22<sup>nd</sup> November 2018 and is aimed at large employers with 250 or more employees. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/06/2019 answer text <p>The Minister of State for Housing has regular meetings with Grenfell United and met with them to seek the group’s views on the proposals set out in our consultation <em>Building a safer future: proposals for reform of the building safety regulatory system</em>, which was published on 6 June.</p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/building-a-safer-future-proposals-for-reform-of-the-building-safety-regulatory-system" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/building-a-safer-future-proposals-for-reform-of-the-building-safety-regulatory-system</a></p><p>There will be further engagement with Grenfell United during the consultation period.</p><p>More generally, the Government is committed to putting residents at the heart of the new, stronger system of building safety for high-rise residential buildings.</p><p>We want residents to:</p><ul><li>Be empowered to hold their buildings’ owners to account;</li></ul><ul><li>Have a strong voice in decision-making about the safety of their building;</li></ul><ul><li>Be listened to straight away when they have safety concerns.</li></ul><p>To bring about this culture change, we are consulting on proposals to give residents:</p><ul><li>more access to safety information about their buildings;</li></ul><ul><li>more involvement in decisions about safety in their buildings through engagement with their building safety managers; and</li></ul><ul><li>a quick, clear route to escalate safety concerns.</li></ul><p>These proposals have been shaped by our Residents’ Reference Panel members, who are residents of high-rise buildings, and our call for evidence, which has helped us to identify best practice in how residents and their landlords, or their building managers, can work together to make sure that their buildings are safe.</p><p>We want to hear residents’ views on these proposals, and we will be engaging with people who live in high-rise residential buildings over the summer to gather feedback as part of the consultation.</p> answering member constituency North West Hampshire answering member printed Kit Malthouse question first answered 13/06/2019 15:05:38 answering member 4495 label Biography information for Kit Malthouse
