star this property answer text The proceeds from the Sukuk, like the proceeds from the wider gilt programme, flow into the consolidated fund. This is used for general expenditure, including expenditure on infrastructure. The government considers the core gilt program rather than the Sukuk to be the most cost-effective way of raising money for expenditure, including that of infrastructure projects. The main purpose behind the decision to issue a second Sukuk is to reaffirm the government’s commitment to the UK being the Western hub for Islamic finance, whilst also providing high-quality liquid assets to UK-based Islamic banks. more like this

Capacity across the estate is being fully utilised and Financial Remedy and Public Law cases continue to be heard at the Royal Courts of Justice and the Nightingale Court at Petty France. Pilot Practice Directorate 36Q has also been implemented at East London Family Court (New Pilot Practice Direction 36Q came into force from 23 April 2020. Pilot PD36Q modifies PD12B (Child Arrangements Programme) to provide temporary local flexibility over procedures for progressing applications for Child Arrangements Orders).

As a result of the continuing exceptionally high receipts of Private Law work at East London Family Court, along with the continuing pressures on judicial recruitment and Cafcass resource, it has been agreed with the Senior Judiciary that some of this work will initially be heard at Central and West London Family Courts with a longer plan of transferring some of the East London postcodes to these courts to balance the waiting times across the region.

The impact of the rebalancing exercise is unlikely to show for several months due to the nature of how cases are listed. However, despite continuing pressures, outstanding cases remain fairly static with 2299 at the end of October and 2251 at the end of December.

OPT Report - FamilyMan Private Law Workload and Performance (BY CASE)

star this property answer text
With the introduction of the Retained EU Law (REUL) Bill, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) remains focused on ensuring that regulatory frameworks maintain the United Kingdom’s high standards of health and safety protection and continue to reduce burdens for business.

In Great Britain, the legislation which controls asbestos exposure risks in workplaces are the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR). These regulations are owned by the Health and Safety Executive.

Under these regulations HSE requires dutyholders to assess whether asbestos is present in their buildings, what condition it’s in and whether it gives rise to a risk of exposure. The duty-holder must then draw up a plan to manage the risk associated with asbestos which, importantly, must include removal of the asbestos if it cannot be safely managed where it remains in place. In addition to this, dutyholders are legally required to remove asbestos containing materials before major refurbishment or demolition work can occur.

Great Britain’s (GB) asbestos legacy remains a key issue and continuing to improve and build on the evidence base around safe management and disposal of asbestos is fundamental. However, concerns remain that moving to a fixed deadline for removal would increase the opportunity for exposure. This is difficult to support where the current risk of exposure is very low and asbestos can be managed safely in situ until planned refurbishment works.

Our standards of health and safety protections are among the highest in the world. HSE will continue to review its retained EU Law to seek opportunities to reduce business burdens and promote growth whilst maintaining the United Kingdom’s high standards of health and safety.
