star this property answer text <p>When proposing major changes to ticket office opening hours, including closures, operators are required to take into account the adequacy of the proposed alternatives in relation to the needs of all passengers; and to include this in the notice of the proposal sent to other operators and passenger groups. We would also expect operators to consider other equality related needs and make this clear in the notice sent to other operators and passenger groups.</p><p> </p><p>Together with industry, we want to improve and modernise the passenger experience by moving staff out from ticket offices to provide more help and advice in customer focused roles. No currently staffed station will be unstaffed as a result of industry changes, and train operators will ensure staff are well located to meet passenger needs in future.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Department is in regular dialogue with the Rail Delivery Group (RDG) on measures that can be taken to make rail travel more accessible for those with young children. Earlier this year, we worked with the RDG to encourage operators to publish family-friendly travel information on their websites, to increase awareness of provisions already in place. In July 2023 the Rail Safety and Standards Board published an updated version of the Key Train Requirements document which includes further measures for operators to consider, which would help make rail travel more family-friendly,</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>No compensation has been paid by the Department to train operators to cover lost revenue due to strike action since 1 January 2022, and none will be for the upcoming strike action. Under the terms of the operator agreements put in place since the onset of COVID, the Government takes revenue risk not operators and hence operators are not financially affected by any fluctuations in revenue.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>When the pandemic started Government put in place emergency agreements with operators to mitigate the financial impacts resulting from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and ensure that rail services could continue to operate. These agreements transferred most financial risk to Government.</p><p> </p><p>Strikes can cause revenue losses up to £25 million on typical weekdays and £15 million on typical weekends, though losses depend on factors such as the nature of industrial action and unions involved.</p> more like this
