If possible, they should make enquiries to ascertain the owner of domestic animals, such as cats, and advise them of the situation. Safety is a key consideration National Highways takes into account across all its activity and much of this investment aims to improve safety across the network for all road users. The majority of DfT reported road casualty statistics are based on STATS19 data, the system through which the police report road casualties. STATS19 collects data on e-scooter casualties, including those using private scooters, with data published regularly in e-scooter casualty factsheets. Data from STATS19 (2022) found the severity of injuries for e-scooters and pedal cycles to be broadly similar. To date, £147.5 million has been allocated to Local Authorities (LAs) in England via the Government's Safer Roads Fund. This has been targeted at improving the safety of over 80 of the most high-risk, rural, and urban ‘A’ roads.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for Transport is working closely with Local Authorities (LAs) and the Road Safety Foundation to provide tailored safety interventions specific to each road’s risk; encouraging safe system principles and improving infrastructure for active travel.
