star this property answer text <p>Zero hours contracts are an important part of the UK’s flexible labour market. They are useful where there is not a constant demand for staff, allowing flexibility for both employers and individuals – like carers, people studying, or retirees. For some, a zero hours contract may be the type of contract which works best for them.</p><p> </p><p>Individuals on zero hours contracts represent a very small proportion of the workforce. The ONS estimates that 155,000 people aged 16 and over were employed on a zero hours contract in London in April – June 2023, representing 3.3% of people in employment in the area.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Nationally, the Government published the Plan for Water in April 2023 – our comprehensive strategy for managing our water environment, including our rivers. It brings together the significant steps we have already taken with a suite of new policy actions. It aims to change the way that we manage water, improve water quality, and continue to secure our water supply.</p><p> </p><p>The Environment Agency works with water companies to develop and ensure investment in water quality improvements. Thames Water have delivered several actions relating to river water quality in Enfield. These have included investigations to better understand the impact of storm overflows from the sewerage system in the Pymmes Brook catchment, enhanced flow and discharge monitoring at Deephams wastewater treatment works and actions aiming to reduce the levels of pesticides and nitrates in Thames Water’s public water supply intakes. The Environment Agency also works closely with the council and the sewerage undertaker, Thames Water Utilities, to help identify and resolve pollution from misconnections in Enfield’s rivers.</p><p> </p><p>Defra and the Environment Agency partner and support local catchment partnerships, Local Authorities and other organisations such as Thames 21 to help protect and restore London’s water and flood plains. This includes a major wetland restoration project in Enfield connecting with the extensive reforestation project to restore Enfield Chase and Salmon’s Brook.</p>

star this property answer text <p>Warehousing is a key part of the country’s supply chains, ensuring vital goods are available to businesses and consumers. The National Planning Policy Framework is clear that planning policies and decisions should recognise and address the specific locational requirements of different sectors.</p><p>This includes making provision for storage and distribution operations at a variety of scales and in suitably accessible locations. Enfield’s strategic position provides an important role in delivering economic growth to the area, and delivering the right sort of warehousing and logistical infrastructure is a key part of this.</p><p>My department will continue to work with the sector to maximise productivity.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We are better equipped than ever to support SMEs, including those in Enfield and across London, to export. The Department offers a wide range of free support services via great.gov.uk including our Export Support Service, International Markets network and through Export Champions, such as PME Cakes in Enfield. UK Export Finance (UKEF) also supports SMEs, which make up 84% of the companies supported directly with a UKEF product in 2022-23.</p><p> </p><p>London exported £20.3 billion goods to the EU in the 12 months to June 2023. An increase of 26% in current prices since 2018; the largest percentage increase of all the English regions. The Department does not hold data on Enfield at a borough or constituency level.</p> more like this

Stability in the region is essential to prevent worsening of the already serious humanitarian situation in northern Syria and enable the Global Coalition to continue the fight against Daesh.
