<p>The department currently has plans to build 23 special schools within local authority
areas in London. These schools will collectively provide over 2000 new places for
children with special educational needs. This includes 5 successful local authority
bids announced on 11 March 2019 from wave 2 of the local authority commissioned special
free school process. The trust competitions are open for these 5 and successful proposer
groups will be announced in winter 2019-20.</p><p> </p><p>The number of schools planned
