Mobile coverage has significantly improved over recent years, with 91% of the UK landmass having 4G coverage by at least one operator, up from 78% in 2017. Despite this progress, there remain areas where mobile connectivity must be improved. The Government has committed to extend geographic 4G coverage to 95% of the UK by 2022 and so address these ‘not spots’.</p><p> </p><p>The Government welcomes the proposals set out in Ofcom’s consultation on awarding the 700 MHz and 3.6-3.8GHz spectrum bands to improve coverage.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>We published the revised National Planning Policy Framework in 2018, setting out national planning policies for supporting high quality communications in England. These include that the planning policies and decisions of local planning authorities should support the expansion of electronic communications networks, such as 5G.</p><p>We have also introduced a range of permitted development rights to support the delivery of mobile infrastructure, including legislating for higher masts in 2016, whilst also protecting local amenity.</p><p>We hope that these measures will be used by industry, alongside proactive engagement with the planning system, to ensure delivery of 5G. However, we will keep planning regulations under review.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and health evidence reviews have been prepared by scientific expert groups in the United Kingdom and around the world. The independent Advisory Group on Non-Ionising Radiation (AGNIR) published their report in the UK in 2012 and the European Commission’s Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR) published their report in 2015. The World Health Organization is presently preparing a review. Highways England had previously advised that these tourist signs would be removed as part of future planned works on the A14, a decision that was driven by the standards relating to tourist signs on the strategic road network.</p><p> </p><p>Highways England reviewed its decision because it appreciates the significance of the site, and the signs on the A14 will remain in place.</p><p> </p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Highways England entered into a conditional contract with BP for the sale of Tollgate Hotel that was conditional on planning permission being granted for development. The planning applications submitted have been subject to a number of judicial reviews, which have delayed the sale. As a result, Highways England have now agreed with BP to move to an unconditional contract; this means the sale will no longer be dependent on gaining planning permission, and Highways England will now be able to move forward with the sale.</p><p>Given that Highways England will be entering into a new unconditional contract with BP for the sale of the property, they have no plans to remarket it at this time.</p> more like this
