The answer provided is based off the annual School Census. In 2011, 1,246,435 children were eligible for free school meals, 16.8% of the school population. We are confident that we will meet this target again in 2020/21 by the end of the financial year.</p><p>We have made plans for the department to support the government’s Plan for Jobs through 4 external apprentice recruitment campaigns that will close on 30 September. However, the £579 million for school-led tutoring has been allocated using the number of pupils in each school attracting the pupil premium.
