The UK’s oil and gas sector is a significant contributor to the economy, but has seen low investment in recent years due to volatility in oil prices and the lack of financing needed to develop projects. The remaining <del class="ministerial">5</del><ins class="ministerial">4</ins> states will sign as their domestic processes allow. On his first visit he was hosted by the Minister of Finance and Economy and focused on opportunities in: oil and gas; financial services; and technical / professional education. Human rights issues are the responsibility of the FCO. The Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific raised UK concerns about hudud punishments during a visit to Brunei Darussalam in August 2018. More recently he raised these issues on Friday 29 March in a letter to the Deputy Foreign Minister. We will also look to see how we could improve upon these trade arrangements in the future.</p><p>The UK is committed to increasing women’s role in trade, recognising the importance of trade as a lever for equality. Expanding women’s access to trade is not only the right thing to do and vital to women’s economic empowerment, but it also brings significant long-term economic and developmental gains.</p><p>The Government has committed to a number of gender equality and human rights initiatives as part of our trade policy.
