Every region in the UK has a role to play in boosting the national economy.</p><p>As we leave the European Union and negotiate new trade deals we plan to build on our strong record of city, growth and devolution deals to ensure people and businesses in all regions of the UK can access markets and bring in the returns. To help make this a reality the government published a new vision for exports support in the Export Strategy recently. It sets a national ambition to transform our export performance and spread opportunities across all regions. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/11/2018 answer text <p>Half of the UK’s trade is already with the rest of the world, outside of the EU, and it is important for the future of the UK, that we look to where the growing parts of the world economy are, such as Asia.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is preparing for an ambitious programme of trade negotiations and enhanced market access, including potentially opening a series of formal negotiations for new free trade agreements with the United States, Australia and New Zealand; and scoping possible UK accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). We have completed 14-week long public consultations on each of these three potential future trade agreement negotiations and on the UK’s possible accession to the CPTPP.</p><p> </p><p>While we are looking to forge new agreements, the Government is also seeking continuity for our existing EU free trade agreements as we leave the European Union. These include the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, UN Guiding Principles on Business and the UN Global Compact. The government also supports initiatives led by business or NGOs such as the Corporate Human Rights Benchmark and the Fairtrade movement. This work is intensifying as we leave the EU.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, the Government is preparing for an ambitious programme of trade negotiations and enhanced market access, including potentially opening formal negotiations for new free trade agreements with the United States and Australia. We have completed 14-week long public consultations on these potential future trade agreement negotiations. We are also building stronger relationships with large economies through a series of Joint Trade Reviews. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/02/2019 answer text <p>For the first time in more than four decades, the UK will have an independent trade policy once we exit from the EU.</p><p>We will deploy all the tools at our disposal and tailor our trade policy to the strengths and requirements of the UK economy. We are preparing for an ambitious programme of trade negotiations and enhanced market access, while seeking continuity for our existing EU free trade agreements. We have consulted on our first four potential FTAs, with Australia, New Zealand, the United States and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.</p><p> </p><p>Our independent trade policy is reinforced by the Government’s Export Strategy, which set the ambition that exports reach 35 percent of GDP through encouraging, informing, connecting and helping to finance businesses with the potential to export. We also aim to remain the principal FDI destination in Europe, an ambition supported by the High Potential Opportunities, a programme of intensive support connecting international investment to globally competitive projects in the UK regions.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Government’s report “EU Exit: Long term economic analysis” considers illustrative scenarios for future trade deals with new partners after exiting the EU. The Government has committed to publishing Scoping Assessments prior to launching negotiations on new free trade agreements. The UK works with Governments, businesses and other actors to advance this agenda. For example, the Department for International Development (DFID) supports the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI), which works with companies such as the Body Shop, Co-op and Tesco, as well as trade unions. We support efforts that work towards a living income in global supply chains.</p><p> </p><p>The UK was the first country to produce a National Action Plan for the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, demonstrating a high level of commitment that will feed into any future trade policy.
