The evaluations show that the overwhelming majority of people cast their vote without a problem. The independent Electoral Commission is responsible for ensuring that elections and referendums are run effectively and in accordance with the law. It regulates the spending of, and donations and loans, to political parties and other campaigners.</p><p> </p><p>It is not acceptable for any organisation to breach electoral procedures – and it is regrettable that fines have been levied on multiple groups on both sides of the referendum campaigns. Pro-Remain groups outspent pro-Leave groups by £4 million in the referendum campaign.</p><p> </p><p>With 17.4 million votes to leave the European Union, more people voted for Brexit than have ever voted for anything else in the United Kingdom. Almost three quarters of the electorate took part in the referendum. The result was a bigger popular vote than won by any government in history. The will of the British people must be respected and delivered. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/09/2019 answer text <p>In January 2019, a judicial review was submitted to the High Court in Northern Ireland against the Boundary Commission for Northern Ireland’s final report</p><p><br>On 28 May, the Court issued its judgment, which concluded that the Boundary Commission had erred in law in the conduct of its consultation on the proposed new constituencies for Northern Ireland</p><p><br>Both parties in the judicial review have lodged an appeal against the Court’s judgment and the date of the appeal hearing is expected to be set later this year</p><p><br>The Government awaits the outcome of these legal proceedings. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/06/2019 answer text <p>The Government took all the legal steps necessary to prepare for the European Parliamentary<br>elections and put in place all the legislative and funding elements to enable Returning Officers to<br>make their preparations required for the polls on 23 May.</p><p>The necessity for EU citizens to complete a UC1 form to be able to vote in European Parliamentary<br>elections implements a requirement under EU law. This is not a new requirement and has been in<br>place for previous European Parliamentary elections. Similar provisions apply to UK citizens living<br>in other EU Member States</p><p>As with any election we will reflect on proceedings and outcomes. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/05/2019 answer text <p>The Registrar of Consultant Lobbyists is an independent office holder who is responsible for maintaining and updating the lobbying register; registrants are required to state whether they comply with a code of conduct and in accordance with the Transparency of Lobbying, Non-party Campaigning and Trade Union Administration Act 2014, the Registrar must be able to inspect any such code of conduct. The Transparency of Lobbying Act defines a “relevant” code of conduct as one which “governs the carrying on the business of consultant lobbying” and it is for the Registrar to determine whether a Code of Conduct meets this test.</p><p>The Department does not intend to undertake a review of the codes of conduct submitted by those on the register to the Registrar of Consultant Lobbyists.
