The BIOT Marine Protected Area (MPA) is highly valued by scientists from many countries who consider it a global reference site for marine conservation in an ocean which is heavily overfished. Ministers are committed to further consultation with Mauritius about the establishment of the MPA in order to have due regard to its rights and interests, as directed by the Arbitral Tribunal of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. In their report entitled &quot;Global Britain and the British Overseas Territories: Resetting the relationship&quot;, the Foreign Affairs Committee (FAC) recommended that we initiate a consultation with the elected governments of the OTs to agree a plan to ensure that there is a pathway for all resident UK and British Overseas Territory citizens to be able to vote and hold elected office in territory.
