On 6 September we announced the 100 places we have invited to develop proposals for Town Deals as part of the £3.6 billion Towns Fund announced on 27 July. 45 of these places are in the Northern Powerhouse, 18 of which are in the North East. Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland will also benefit from £600 million of investment in jobs and infrastructure under the North of Tyne Devolution Deal, whilst the Tees Valley Devolution Deal is worth £450 million. Additionally, of the £3.4 billion of Local Growth Funding that has gone to the Northern Powerhouse, £505.6 million has been allocated to the North East and Tees Valley Local Enterprise Partnerships. <br> <br> b) The position of Minister for the Northern Powerhouse was first created in 2015 to drive economic growth in the North and ensure the needs of the North of England are represented in government. The Department also measures personal wellbeing through the annual Civil Service People Survey using the same national statistics that the ONS use for the UK population as a whole.</p><p>The four personal well-being questions are: Life Satisfaction, Worthwhile, Happiness, and Anxiety. This tranche of funding was expected to deliver a number of projects, which included proposals to provide capital support to the <em>New Model in Technology and Engineering </em>(NMiTE) University project in Herefordshire.</p><p>Since the deal was agreed, the Marches Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP) have been working with the NMiTE project to refine their proposal, further develop their business case, and engage with wider stakeholders. The LEP also provided development funding to the project to support the completion of the business case.</p><p>In October 2017, the Department for Education announced a further £15 million to support development of the faculty, campus and curriculum. Following this agreement, the NMITE project were able to develop their proposal further and in Autumn of 2018 a location for the first phase of development was identified.</p><p>This was followed in October 2019 by LEP confirmation of £2.34 million investment to fund the transformation of a former school into facilities for Hereford’s proposed new university.</p><p>The LEP continue to work with the NMiTE project as a member of their board and governance structure.
