star this property answer text <p>The Infected Blood Inquiry's terms of reference require the Inquiry to ascertain, as far as practicable, the likely numbers of people who have been infected (directly or indirectly) in consequence of the use of infected blood and the use of infected blood products.</p><p> </p><p>The Inquiry has held four well-attended meetings in Northern Ireland so far with people infected and affected, including meetings in Belfast on 30 July and 20 November. It is planning to hold further meetings elsewhere in Northern Ireland, and I have offered my support to the enquiry for this plan.</p> more like this

However, on receipt of the Inquiry’s report the Government will make a full statement to Parliament and will give the Inquiry’s recommendations full and proper consideration which we will do with the utmost urgency, recognising that many infected people have passed away since the start of the Inquiry, and every day that passes before the Inquiry completes its work risks further tragic losses.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to full disclosure to the Infected Blood Inquiry, and no historical record or document relevant to the Inquiry will be withheld from it.</p><p>In his statement on Disclosure and Legal Professional Privilege (LPP), Sir Brian Langstaff recognized that the right to assert LPP is preserved in the context of public inquiries by section 22(1) of the Inquiries Act 2005. He also recognised that, given the passage of time that the Inquiry will be investigating, many of the LPP and confidentiality issues will have eroded and this is the Government’s position also.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Northern Ireland Protocol guarantees that even in the event that the UK’s future relationship with the EU is not in place by the end of the implementation period, there will be no hard border between Northern Ireland and Ireland and no splitting of the UK’s customs territory. In so doing, the agreement preserves the economic and constitutional integrity of the United Kingdom, upholds the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement, and ensures people and businesses that rely on an open border between Northern Ireland and Ireland can continue living their lives and operating as they do now.</p><p>Northern Ireland’s business community, in particular, has been very supportive of the deal. More than 93% of Manufacturing Northern Ireland members back this deal, as do other business and farming representative bodies such as the Federation of Small Business, the Institute of Directors and the Ulster Farmers’ Union.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>HM Treasury has allocated over £4.2 billion of additional funding to departments and the Devolved Administrations for EU exit preparations so far.</p><p>This funding is to cover all exit scenarios, and is in addition to departmental efforts to reprioritise from business as usual toward preparations for the UK’s departure from the EU.</p><p>Work on no-deal exit preparations cannot be readily separated from other EU exit work. The Department is preparing for all eventualities and the resources available to support preparations are kept under constant review.</p><p>This expenditure breaks down as:</p><p> </p><ul><li>£412m of additional funding over the spending review period for the Department for Exiting the European Union, Department for International Trade and the Foreign &amp; Commonwealth Office at Autumn Statement 2016.</li><li>£286m of additional funding for 17/18 (a full breakdown of which can be found in Supplementary Estimates 17/18). star this property answer text <p>As a responsible Government, we have been preparing to minimise any disruption in the event of no deal for nearly three years. The Government is putting in place a range of mitigations for such a scenario. The Cabinet Office is playing its part by, amongst other things, putting in place arrangements to deploy expertise to departments.</p><p>The Cabinet Office has allocated £58.8m in 2019/20 for EU Exit activity. The costs for each scenario cannot be readily separated, given the significant overlap in plans in many cases.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The principle of collective agreement requires that ministers are able to express their views freely and frankly in private, and therefore any leaks from Cabinet or Cabinet Committees are taken very seriously, as are leaks of any Government information or material. If any breach is found it is dealt with under the Ministerial Code, Special Adviser Code, or Civil Service Code. It has been the policy of successive Governments not to comment on leaks other than in exceptional circumstances when it is in the public interest to do so.</p> more like this
