unstar this property answer text The Responsible Gambling Strategy Board are expert advisers to the Gambling Commission on safer gambling and gambling-related harm. Government welcomes the RGSB’s report on children and young people and the Commission’s response. Protecting children and other vulnerable people from harm was a key objective of our Gaming Machines and Social Responsibility Review, which was published in May. Our Review, which was informed by advice from the RGSB and Commission, set out measures to increase existing protections around gaming machines, online gambling and gambling advertising. The Committees of Advertising Practice will publish further guidance on protecting children and young people later this year and additional research has been commissioned on the impact of marketing and advertising on them.

more like this

Since then, Ofcom has taken a number of steps to benefit consumers in the telecoms sector, including introducing an Automatic Compensation Scheme for broadline and landline customers, and a text to switch reform to simplify switching for mobile customers. Additionally, the Government’s Consumer Green Paper was published on 11 April 2018. unstar this property answer text The Chancellor announced at Budget that the new stake limits for sub-category B2 gaming machines will come into effect when Remote Gaming Duty is increased in October 2019. There is no delay as no date had previously been set. Government considered a range of factors in determining the implementation date of the stake reduction to B2 machines, including harm from problem gambling, impact on the high street and the economic wellbeing of those who work in betting shops. It remains completely committed to taking action to protect the most vulnerable in society from the harm that these gaming machines can cause and we have been clear we expect this to be a priority for the gambling industry. more like this

unstar this property answer text In May 2018, Parliament passed the Data Protection Act 2018 which, together with the General Data Protection Regulation, imposes strict obligations on data controllers, including social media platforms. Social media organisations must be clear with people how their data is going to be used and only process it where there are lawful grounds to do so. The legislation also strengthens the rights of individuals to access their own data, object to its continued use or seek to rectify, erase or move it. Organisations which fail to comply with the new legislation may be investigated by the Information Commissioner’s Office and subject to increased fines. For those who commit serious breaches there are significant financial penalties including fines up to £18 million or 4% of global turnover that can be applied as well as the backstop of criminal prosecution. We worked closely with the Information Commissioner during the passage of the Bill and in the wake of the Facebook/Cambridge Analytica controversy to make sure she had the powers she needed to investigate complex data breaches in our increasingly digital economy and society.
