Conflict, including that in Yemen, allows terrorist organisations to establish themselves and spread their message of violence and extremism. We continue to work with our partners, including those in the Gulf, to deny terrorist organisations the space in which to operate. They continue to pose a threat to Yemen, the region and beyond. As the UK no longer maintains a presence on the ground in Yemen, we are working with partners to monitor the threat from these organisations and disrupt any attack planning. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/10/2017 answer text <p>The Saudi-led Coalition continues to seek to reinstate the legitimate government in Yemen and defend its own southern border against artillery and missile strikes by Houthi forces and those allied to former President Saleh. The conflict sees skirmishes and sporadic fighting in a number of areas in western Yemen, including along the Saudi border, around Midi, north east of Sana'a and in the vicinity of Sirwah. We remain concerned by the ability of terrorist organisations such as Al Qaeda and Daesh to exploit ungoverned spaces in Yemen. The conflict has also resulted in security threats to international shipping in the Bab-el-Mandeb. Reinstating peace talks remains the top priority: a political solution is the best way to bring stability to Yemen and address the worsening humanitarian crisis. The UK continues to play a leading role in international efforts to achieve this goal. There is no military solution to the conflict and only a political solution can bring long-term stability to Yemen. The Yemeni parties must engage constructively and in good faith. The UK has played a leading role in diplomatic efforts, including bringing together key actors to seek a peaceful solution. As part of this, I hosted a Ministerial-level meeting with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, US and UN Special Envoy at the UN General Assembly in September.</p><p>The UK also proposed the Presidential Statement passed at the UN Security Council in June this year, which called for an end to the fighting and a return to UN-led peace talks. We are now working with our international and regional partners to ensure that the Security Council's words are converted into action as a matter of urgency. This is why we have increased UK aid to Yemen to £155 million for 2017-18, and have stepped up our work with UN agencies and other partner organisations to make sure that our aid is delivered to people in dire need. We regularly monitor and review our programmes and use independent experts to monitor and verify that food and supplies reach those in need.</p><p>As pen-holder on Yemen at the UN Security Council, the UK proposed and coordinated a Presidential Statement earlier this year, calling for all parties to recognise the importance of unhindered humanitarian access. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/10/2017 answer text <p>There are a number of measures in place to prevent the flow of arms into Yemen in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2216, including the UN Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (UNVIM) which the UK fully supports. In line with the UK-sponsored UN Security Council Presidential Statement, agreed on 15 June, the Government is engaged in efforts to increase commercial and humanitarian shipments through Yemeni ports and airports. We are discussing short-term options to improve port infrastructure in Al Hudaydah and other ports with regional countries, the US and the UN, including cranes, inspection and improving commercial access. We are also monitoring port capacity across the country. We continue to push for increased access to Sana’a Airport for lifesaving humanitarian supplies and movement of urgent humanitarian cases. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/10/2017 answer text <p>The UK regularly raises the issue of water in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPTs) with the Israeli authorities to ensure fair distribution of water across the OPTs. The UK is a shareholder in a number of major international financial institutions, such as the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank, which support infrastructure projects across the OPTs.</p><p>The Government also supports Bedouin communities facing demolition or eviction in Area C of the West Bank through our funding to the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) legal aid programme.
