	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/05/2018 answer text <p>A negotiated political settlement through inclusive intra-Yemeni dialogue is the only way to end the Yemeni conflict and address the ongoing humanitarian crisis, and we continue to work with all our Yemeni, regional and international partners in support of this goal. As the 15 March UN Security Council Presidential Statement made clear, this will require the full involvement of women and other under-represented groups to ensure that the process goes beyond politics and reflects the aspirations of all Yemenis.</p><p>The imperative of reaching a political solution to the conflict in Yemen was agreed in the Joint Declaration by the UK and Saudi Arabia during the visit of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia in March. The Yemeni parties must engage constructively and in good faith to overcome obstacles and find a political solution to end the conflict. The UK continues to play a leading role in international efforts to achieve this goal. In March this year, the UK proposed and coordinated a UN Security Council Presidential Statement (PRST) which was agreed on 15 March 2018. This PRST builds upon the previous one agreed on 15 June 2017, also sponsored and coordinated by the UK, it expresses deep concern about the humanitarian situation in Yemen, welcomes the appointment of the new UN Special Envoy for Yemen, and calls for the parties to agree steps towards a ceasefire. We will continue to work with our Yemeni, regional and international partners to ensure that words are converted into action. The UK fully supports – including through financial assistance – the work of the UN Special Envoy to facilitate progress towards peace talks. The Foreign Secretary most recently discussed the urgent need for a political solution with the Saudi Foreign Minister,the Deputy Emirati Foreign Minister, and the US Assistant Secretary of State on 26 April. The UK strongly supports, including through financial assistance, the work of Martin Griffiths as the UN Special Envoy for Yemen. We are using our role as penholder at the UN Security Council to focus international attention on the need for progress. We secured the agreement of a Presidential Statement on 15 March which called for an inclusive political solution, and for all parties to the conflict to abandon pre-conditions and engage in good faith with the UN-led process. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/06/2016 answer text <p>The UK supports the Saudi Arabian-led Coalition military intervention in Yemen, which came at the request of legitimate President Hadi to deter aggression by the Houthis and forces loyal to the former president Saleh. Saudi Arabia and the Coalition have played a crucial role in this endeavour. Peace talks are now the top priority. During the Foreign Secretary’s visit to the Gulf in late May and early June, all countries reassured of their commitment to finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Yemen. The UK is working closely with the UN to encourage the Yemeni parties to engage in good faith in the peace talks in Kuwait and respect the ceasefire which started on 10 April. The UK’s funding for the UN Special Envoy for Yemen’s office, alongside support from other donors, is assisting the UN-led peace process. It enables the UN to recruit technical experts on issues such as mediation, ceasefire design and monitoring, and disarmament and demobilisation. The UK continues to strongly support the work of UN Special Envoy, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, and his tireless efforts in working with all parties to bring about peace in Yemen. We deeply regret the failure of the parties to reach an agreement in Kuwait and urge them to find the compromises that will end the current conflict. The secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. Friend the Member for Uxbridge and South Ruislip (Mr Johnson) hosted the Foreign Ministers of the US, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in London on 19 July to discuss the situation in Yemen, including the deteriorating humanitarian and economic situation and to encourage commitment from the Yemeni parties to the political process. I represented the UK at a subsequent meeting in Jeddah on 25 August.
