If the advice was given that photographs could be taken on mobile phones but not on SLR cameras this was incorrect. The Visitor Services team and Parliamentary Security Department will reissue briefing instructions to their staff to ensure that the regulations are applied correctly and consistently.</p><p>Filming and photography in Westminster Hall is for ‘personal’ rather than ‘professional’ use unless agreed in advance. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/03/2018 answer text <p>The decision taken on the future model for guided tours is an operational business matter and it has been taken by the executive management of both Houses. Member Committees in both Houses and the House of Commons Commission were consulted during the making of this decision and the new model for tours has been endorsed by all of these bodies.</p><p>The current contract with Blue Badge Guides to deliver commercial guided tours in Parliament ends in October 2018. Even if no changes were made to the way guided tours are delivered under procurement law the contract would need to be retendered through open competition, with no guarantees that the current provider would be successful.</p><p>The decision was made following thorough scrutiny of three options, including keeping the current system as it is. The business case in favour of the chosen option was approved because it will simplify the management of our tours operation as a whole, maintain consistent quality across all types of tours offered, create 28 new full-time and part-time jobs, end Parliament’s use of casual workers with no guaranteed hours, and also save a modest amount of taxpayers’ money.</p><p>The decision has been taken, and all efforts are now focussed on the important task of delivery of the agreed changes in 2018. The only food which is disposed of consists of products that are not safe to be consumed, following guidance from, for example, the Catering Services’ Food Safety Policy and in relation to use-by dates.</p><p>Measures taken to monitor and reduce food waste from our catering venues includes:</p><ul><li>Menu plans and cycles are used which enables orders to be planned in advance;</li></ul><ul><li>Most dishes are made fresh in-house, which allows for improvisation if products need to be used up, and enables short life products to be used in smoothies, soups and salads;</li></ul><ul><li>Stock is regularly counted, and order volumes consider the level of stock-in-hand;</li></ul><ul><li>Dates are checked regularly on ambient food products and any short life products are issued to the kitchens for immediate use;</li></ul><ul><li>Many of the high-volume protein items are ordered by unit (rather than weight) which makes portion control more accurate and reduces the likelihood of over ordering;</li></ul><ul><li>Venue orders are checked by a purchasing team for accuracy, to ensure that orders and volumes are correct and in-line with historic figures;</li></ul><ul><li>The kitchens make salad items in-house, meaning venues can cook-off and utilise any surplus protein products effectively;</li></ul><ul><li>Stock is always rotated using ‘first-in, first-out’ principles;</li></ul><ul><li>Various smart storage methods and materials are used to help prevent premature spoilage;</li></ul><ul><li>Some products are frozen if not used on the day;</li></ul><ul><li>Products which show high levels of wastage are changed (for example, some high frequency/low volume lines are now frozen which enables portion control);</li></ul><ul><li>Any hot food which is re-usable is transferred immediately to where it can be sold (or blast chilled within food safety requirements and used the following day).<br></li></ul><p><br>The Sustainable Restaurant Association has rated the House of Commons as a good practice organisation in respect of food waste.</p> answering member constituency Carshalton and Wallington answering member printed Tom Brake question first answered 21/05/2019 18:06:47 answering member 151 label Biography information for Tom Brake previous answer version 118570 answering member constituency Carshalton and Wallington answering member printed Tom Brake answering member 151 label Biography information for Tom Brake

This represents a 12% reduction from 2017/18 when 266,749 kgs of food waste was generated. Members’ staff and visitors to donate toiletries, and non-perishable food to a food bank.</p><p>We are unable to provide the proportions for the treatment of unused and uneaten food waste across the parliamentary estate as we do not separately record the amount of such waste entering the general waste stream.</p><p>All catering food waste segregated at the kitchens and food preparation areas is recovered or recycled; and no general office or catering waste from Parliament is sent to landfill.</p><p>The majority of food waste generated by the House of Commons is not fit for human consumption. A very minimal amount of edible food will end up as waste due to the controls in place to prevent this. Even if a minimal amount of edible food could be recovered, it is also a legal requirement that this food meets strict hygiene standards even upon donation, which cannot be guaranteed once it leaves the premises.</p><p>Working closely with the Maintenance and Environment teams, Catering Services have removed approximately 152 tonnes of organic waste from the general waste stream from August 2015 to July 2016. This is an increase of 30% from the first full year of the scheme.</p><p>There are no plans for HoC Catering Services to look at alternative ways of recycling food, i.e. as donations.</p><p>Westminster Chapel, telephone number 020 7834 1731, hosts the nearest food bank: The Westminster Foodbank, Westminster Chapel, Buckingham Gate, London, SW1E 6BS. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/01/2019 answer text <p><del class="ministerial">The House of Commons Commission has agreed a number of actions to promote responsible alcohol consumption on the Parliamentary Estate.</del> <ins class="ministerial">On 19 March 2018, the House of Commons Commission endorsed the recommendations of the Administration Committee to help to promote responsible drinking in Commons catering venues. The Commission also agreed to return to this matter on a six-monthly basis. The Commission did so on 29 October 2018, also giving due weight to the reference to access to alcohol within the Dame Laura Cox report on bullying and harassment.
