star this property answer text <p>The UK is working with the Kenyan Human Rights Commission, the Mau Mau War Veterans Association, the Nairobi Governor’s Office, and the National Museums of Kenya to make sure the proposed memorial is as inclusive as possible and promotes reconciliation. The Overseas Service Pensioners’ Association (OSPA) has also been fully consulted. <br><br>The first plaque will state: ‘This memorial is a symbol of reconciliation between the British Government, the Mau Mau, and all those who suffered during the Emergency Period’. <br><br>The proposed title of the memorial is: ‘Memorial to the Victims of Torture and Ill-Treatment during the Colonial Era (1952-1963)’. This reflects the wording of the settlement agreement and the announcement made by the then Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. Friend the Member for Richmond (Yorks) (Mr Hague), on 6 June 2013.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government has not estimated the cost of any outstanding maintenance work on the Severn Bridge as, under the concession agreement , Severn River Crossing plc (SRC) are responsible for maintaining the crossings for the remainder of the concession. SRC must ensure that the crossings are handed back to the Secretary of State for Transport at end of the concession in satisfactory and serviceable condition.</p><p> </p><p>At the present time no decisions have been taken on the management arrangements of the Severn crossings after the end of the current concession and so I cannot confirm who will bear the costs of any maintenance needs after the concession. star this property answer text <p>The Government has made clear our concerns about Israel’s treatment of Palestinian detainees in meetings with G4S. The UK also considers that Israel’s detention of Palestinian prisoners within Israel is contrary to Article 76 of the Fourth Geneva Convention and have clearly stated this position to Israeli officials. International law does not impose direct obligations on corporations. However, the Government encourages British companies to show respect for human rights in their operations in the UK and internationally. On 21 April 2013, G4S publicly confirmed that they would not renew a number of security contracts in the West Bank ‘to ensure that G4S Israel business practices remain in line with our own business ethics policy’. star this property answer text <p>Earlier this month, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published guidance on the modification of blood lipids (cholesterol) for the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD).</p><p> </p><p>The guidance recognises the place of statins in the primary prevention of CVD. However, it does not propose that statins should be used instead of the lifestyle adjustments that people at risk of CVD need to make — such as stopping smoking, being more active, drinking less alcohol, eating more healthily and losing weight.</p><p> </p><p>The guidance encourages general practitioners to fully explore with their patients the ways in which people can reduce their risk of CVD, presenting all the options promoted by NICE’s guidance, including lifestyle changes, and to allow patients to make their own decisions.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>National Health Service accident and emergency (A&amp;E) departments are measured against a standard that at least 95% of patients should be admitted, transferred or discharged within four hours of arrival. The standard applies to all types of (A&amp;E) departments, including major (A&amp;E) departments, minor injury units, and walk-in centres.</p><p> </p><p>This standard was met in all four quarters and for the whole of 2013-14, with performance at 95.7% for the year. It has been met for the first quarter (April to June) of 2014-15, with performance at 95.1%.</p><p> </p><p>There were 21.8 million attendances at (A&amp;E) departments in 2013-14 compared to 20.5 million in 2009-10, and in the face of rising demand not all patients are receiving care within the standard. NHS England, the NHS Trust Development Authority and Monitor are working with the most challenged providers and commissioners. £400 million has been made available this year to ensure local urgent and emergency care services are sustainable and prepared for winter.</p><p> </p>

star this property answer text <p>Progress is being made in nearly every trust and the Chief Inspector of Hospitals has recommended that five of the initial 11 placed in special measures a year ago should come out. As a result the Department and its arm’s length bodies are finally turning around performance in failing hospitals.</p><p> </p><p>The Government will no longer tolerate services which persistently fail to reach an acceptable standard. It is therefore introducing a special measures regime from 1 April 2015 for all adult social care providers registered with and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).</p><p> </p><p>Providers that are rated as inadequate by the CQC under its new inspection regime will be given a clear timescale within which they will be expected to improve, or face actions which could lead to their closing down. This clarity on timing will provide an incentive for providers to improve quickly and help local authorities and others plan for alternative provision should services have to close. It will also give the public confidence that poor care will be tackled more quickly.</p><p> </p><p>During the autumn, the Department will work with the CQC, social care providers and people using services, their families and carers on the details of the regime, including what support can be given to failing providers to help them improve their services.</p>

A table giving each supermarket chain’s calorie reduction pledge annual returns for 2013 and 2014 has been placed in the Library.</p><p> </p><p>Annual returns provided by companies are published on the Responsibility Deal website each summer. An independent evaluation of the whole Responsibility Deal is under way. The Department does not monitor the returns against delivery plans. This funding was provided on the understanding that from 2015, industry stakeholders would be encouraged to make future investments in the unit, as a result of its demonstrated success in reducing online Intellectual Property (IP) crime.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The unit has been well received by industry and early indications suggest that it will reduce online IP crime .</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Government is currently discussing options to ensure the future sustainability of the Unit with industry.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Government works closely with the European Union Observatory on the Infringement of Intellectual Property Rights to share best practice with stakeholders – including industry bodies and European and international enforcement bodies – on the approach to tackling intellectual property (IP) enforcement.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Government also plays an active role in Europol and Interpol intellectual property enforcement action and undertakes direct bilateral action where operationally necessary.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Through our network of overseas IP attachés the Government continues to build strong relations with government departments, industry bodies and enforcement agencies. For example, in September the Chinese Government will host the second UK-China IP Symposium which I shall be attending. The Symposium, which will have a clear enforcement component, is an opportunity for UK and Chinese companies to interact with senior policymakers from both countries on a range of intellectual property topics. The UK Government will be coordinating a range of activities in China that week, engaging with the Supreme People’s Court and the Ministry of Public Security.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>

star this property answer text <p>NHS England is responsible for the oversight of commissioning of Assistive Technology by the National Health Service.</p><p> </p><p>NHS England advises that it is committed to improving and assuring the continued development of assistive technology through the publication and monitoring against national service specifications. It recognises the potential of assistive technologies to improve health outcomes, empower patients to self-manage their conditions, and provide care that is convenient, accessible and cost-effective. The Technology Enabled Care Services (TECS) programme at NHS England aims to improve the lives of people with long-term conditions through the use of technologies such as telehealth, telecare, telemonitoring, telecoaching and self-care apps. The ambition is to create the right commissioning environment that supports and encourages the innovative use of technology to improve health outcomes and deliver more cost effective services.</p><p> </p><p>NHS England has also identified an additional £22.5 million funding for Augmentative and Alternative Communication and Environmental Controls in 2014-15. It is currently engaged with clinicians and service providers to ensure equitable and timely access to these services for the population of England.</p>

These state that for blind and partially sighted patients, the name must appear in Braille on the packaging and that the package leaflet is made available on request in formats suitable for the blind and partially sighted.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is aware of other technological initiatives which can be used by blind patients to access additional information. However, these are not mandated within the regulations and there are no plans for changes to the current European legal framework.</p> more like this
