	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/02/2020 answer text <p>The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) makes has an active programme to reduce and replace animal experiments and in recent years we have developed a number of alternative methods for testing that do not require animals. We will continue to look for alternatives so that we minimise our use of animals.</p><p> </p><p>Animal experiments are regulated by the UK Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA). Under ASPA, “animal experiments” are referred to as “scientific procedures”. To work effectively and securely, it would require all polling stations in a constituency to be electronically linked and the register updated in real time to prevent anyone registering and voting in one<br />polling station and moving quickly to another to do the same. This would present considerable technical challenges and carry significant cost.</p><p><ins class="ministerial">Such a change would introduce uncertainties as to the register to be used for the election and undermine confidence in the process if candidates were unable to challenge any unusual trends in registration prior to Polling Day.</ins></p><p>Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) are legally responsible for determining who is eligible to vote in polls in their local areas. The 12-month extension is automatic and free of charge and those benefitting will not have to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">The Home Secretary has confirmed we will grant immediate Indefinite Leave to Remain to families of eligible NHS health workers who die as a result of contracting Coronavirus.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The Government has announced we will extend the visas for a range of healthcare professionals working for the NHS and independent health and care providers, where their current visa expires before 1 October. This offer also applies to their families. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/10/2019 answer text <p>Abandoned, lost and otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG) is estimated to comprise 40 – 70% of man-made waste in the ocean measured by weight. Ascertaining the extent of the ALDFG that ends up in UK waters faces a number of challenges, including the movement of ALDFG with ocean currents. One of the best indicators is the Marine Conservation Society’s beach clean data, which indicate that fishing-related litter is amongst the ten most prevalent items recorded on UK beaches.</p><p><ins class="ministerial">Defra recognises addressing ALDFG as a key priority. We are an active member of the Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI): a pioneering and cross-cutting initiative that engages with communities around the world to collaboratively address the problem. We are working closely with the Marine Management Organisation (MMO), other Government departments including the Ministry of Defence, statutory nature conservation bodies and marine industries to manage and reduce underwater noise.</p><p> </p><p>The underwater noise impact of using low order deflagration techniques for unexploded ordnance detonations is currently being researched by Hartley Anderson on behalf of the <ins class="ministerial">Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy</ins><del class="ministerial">Defra Group</del>. The MMO is an active member of the Steering Group which is helping to progress this research. Closed water trials took place in 2019 and sea trials of the technology are planned for 2020. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/03/2020 answer text <p><del class="ministerial">The UK-wide Pollinator Monitoring Research Partnership was established with funding from Defra and the Scottish and Welsh Governments.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">The total cost over the three-year project period from 2016 to 2019 was £282,720.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">In-kind contributions from UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (UK CEH) and other academic and voluntary organisations were also committed to the project, to a value of £201,804 (for example for staff time, data sharing, software). The monitoring work itself was co-ordinated by UK CEH.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">A follow-up project is now underway, building on the outcomes from this first one. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/02/2020 answer text <p>​The Cruise Berthing Facility Project was raised during Lord Ahmad's visit to the Cayman Islands last year and the Governor maintains a regular dialogue with those on both sides of this debate. Environmental protection is an area of devolved responsibility in Overseas Territories. Cayman law requires that an environmental impact assessment be conducted before a development of this nature proceeds. An updated environmental impact <del class="ministerial">assessment</del> <ins class="ministerial">scoping document </ins>has been submitted to the Environmental Assessment Board for review; once this review is complete a period of public consultation will commence before a final report is issued. Under the Blue Belt programme, United Kingdom funding has been provided to support the Overseas Territories protect and manage their marine environments. The programme is currently on course to protect 4 million square kilometres of ocean around the UKOTs.
