star this property answer text <p>The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) makes has an active programme to reduce and replace animal experiments and in recent years we have developed a number of alternative methods for testing that do not require animals. We will continue to look for alternatives so that we minimise our use of animals.</p><p> </p><p>Animal experiments are regulated by the UK Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA). Under ASPA, “animal experiments” are referred to as “scientific procedures”. star this property answer text <p>As of 11 October there were 20 open Military Aid to Civil Authorities (MACA) tasks; further information on these tasks is included in the attached table. Those tasks with zero Defence personnel assigned in the table relate to the use of the Defence Estate by other authorities and no Defence personnel are specifically dedicated to the execution of the MACA. In addition to those personnel assigned in the table, 4,000 troops are held at readiness to further support a range of resilience operations at the request of the civil authorities.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Foreign,Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) leads on a humanitarian response. No formal requests for humanitarian assistance have been received to date but the humanitarian situation remains fluid and could change quickly.</p><p>207 troops, and approximately 40 vehicles, are currently deployed to Poland as the spearhead element of the Humanitarian Assistance Task Force (HATF). Deployed force levels remain under constant review, in consultation with deployed Home Office and FCDO staff.</p><p>Together with the approximately 700 HATF personnel held at readiness in the UK, and 100 aligned to other operations in Poland, the HATF provides a prompt and scalable response to any emergent humanitarian tasking.</p><p><ins class="ministerial">The UK has stepped up its support to the people of Ukraine again with the announcement of an extra £100 million worth of further humanitarian aid to the country. This brings the UK total offer of support to the Ukraine crisis to around £400 million.</ins></p>

establishment, but not a military base); the capturing of some activity not previously counted; and some changes due to realigning figures from calendar to financial years.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The UK has never provided training that contained any sensitive information and it did not compromise the Official Secrets Act. No training has been provided to Chinese personnel since 2020, either in the UK or in the People’s Republic of China. </ins></p>

star this property answer text <p>When a principal applicant submits a Leave Outside the Immigration Rules (LOTR) application for additional family members, it is initially received by the Ministry of Defence. A decision on whether this application meets the eligibility requirements of the EGS/ARAP additional family member policy is made by the Ministry of Defence or referred to the relevant sponsoring Government department (dependent upon the role performed by the principal applicant with EGS/ARAP eligibility) to make that decision.</p><p>Those found to meet the eligibility requirements are then referred to the Home Office by the Ministry of Defence, who will perform additional checks (such as biometric enrolment and security) in order to make the final decision on the grant of LOTR.</p><p>Since August 2021, a total of 1,103 applications for additional family members have been received by the Ministry of Defence.</p><p>Of the above, decisions have been made in 401 cases across HM Government.</p><p>i) <del class="ministerial">107</del><ins class="ministerial">167</ins> applications have ben found to be eligible, in whole or in part, and referred to the Home Office for grant of LOTR.</p><p>ii) 234 applications have been found to be ineligible by Defence and the Foreign Office.</p><p>iii) <del class="ministerial">70</del><ins class="ministerial"><strong>702</strong></ins> applications are awaiting an eligibility decision with Defence and other Government departments. These are at various stages of the decision-making process and are being worked through on a case by case basis, by the relevant Government department, as quickly as practicable.</p><p>All casework decisions are taken against a clear framework of eligibility criteria. Timelines regarding LOTR eligibility decisions can vary considerably, dependent upon the complexity of the case, the need to conduct checks with other Government departments, or the length of time it takes for applicants to respond to follow-up queries.</p>
