star this property answer text <p>In March 2021 the government published the Integrated Review of Security, Defence, Development and Foreign Policy. The IR recognised that Russia remained the most acute threat to our security; and that NATO will remain the foundation of collective security in the Euro-Atlantic.</p><p>These assessments have certainly been borne out by the current crisis in Ukraine. We funded these threats by awarding MOD the largest sustained spending increase since the end of the Cold War, with a £24bn uplift in cash terms over the Spending Review 2020 period.</p><p>However, our number one priority is to keep the nation safe. That is why, as the Prime Minister announced in her speech to the UN on Wednesday, the UK will spend 3% of GDP on defence by 2030, maintaining our position as the leading security actor in Europe.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The plans announced at Spending Review 2021 mean that total departmental spending is set to rise to £566 billion in 2024-25 – a cash increase of £150bn per annum over the Parliament.</p><p> </p><p>It is standard practice for the government to set cash budgets, and for departments to manage the risk of inflation. However, the government is also driving a renewed focus on efficiency, to ensure that departments can continue to deliver on their commitments and make their resources go further.</p><p> </p><p>The government is taking important steps to get inflation under control through strong, independent monetary policy, responsible tax and spending decisions, and reforms to boost our productivity and growth.</p><p> </p><p>The Government will be announcing measures shortly to address energy price costs.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The government understands that people across the UK are worried about the rising cost of living and are seeing their disposable incomes decrease as they spend more on the essentials.</p><p> </p><p>On 8 September, government announced that the energy price cap will be superseded with a new Energy Price Guarantee, which means that a typical UK household will pay no more than £2500 a year on their energy bill over the next 2 years from 1 October. The Government will also introduce a six-month scheme to support businesses, charities and public sector organisations, which will protect them from soaring energy costs and provide them with the certainty they need to plan their business through the acute crisis this winter.</p><p> </p><p>This announcement comes in addition to the previously announced support. Eight million of the most vulnerable households, including those in Hitchin and Harpenden, will see £1,200 extra support in Cost of Living Payments, provided in instalments across the year, with additional support for pensioners and those claiming disability benefits. This includes the £400 support through the Energy Bills Support Scheme – available to all households.</p><p> </p><p>We continue to monitor a range of cost of living pressures and their impacts, and later this month the Chancellor will set out a package of measures to deliver on the Prime Minister’s commitment to cut taxes and boost growth, laying the groundwork for the change we need in the long term to make our economy stronger.</p>

star this property answer text <p>Childcare Vouchers are now closed to new entrants and the Government has no plans to reopen or reform them. Existing customers can continue to use them as long as they remain with their current employer, the employer continues to offer Vouchers, and their contract of employment remains the same.</p><p> </p><p>Parents can seek to get a refund from their employer for their unused Childcare Vouchers. However, there is no obligation for the employer to make a refund.</p><p> </p><p>If the Voucher provider is unable or unwilling to provide recompense, they might be able to use the Childcare Vouchers for other forms of childcare. Some childcare providers do accept them towards the cost of holiday clubs and a range of after-school activities.</p> more like this

The Chief Secretary to the Treasury is the Minister with responsibility for devolved administration funding.</p><p> </p><p>The former Chief Secretary to the Treasury attended a Finance Interministerial Standing Committee meeting on 15 June and a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Standing Committee on 29 June, together with Welsh Government Ministers, where discussions covered the latest economic outlook. The former Chief Secretary to the Treasury also held a bilateral meeting with the Welsh Government Minister for Finance and Local Government ahead of the F:ISC meeting on 15 June where economic and fiscal matters were raised.</p> more like this
