Friend, the Secretary of State for Education, in 2012. It comprised of three distinct work strands: the Cadet Expansion Programme, which was run jointly with the Ministry of Defence to create new cadet units in state schools; Troops to Teachers, to attract ex-service personnel into teaching; and military ethos alternative provision, which aimed to raise educational attainment and improve behaviour and attendance for children and young people at risk of exclusion.</p><p>The Department funded the Troops to Teachers and military ethos alternative provision work streams. The Troops to Teachers programme was replaced in 2018 by the Troops to Teachers undergraduate initial teacher training (ITT) bursary. This bursary offers undergraduate service leavers £40,000 over two years to train as a secondary school teacher in mathematics, physics, computing or modern foreign languages. It should be noted that graduate service leavers can complete postgraduate ITT, therefore data regarding expenditure on the Troops to Teachers undergraduate ITT bursary does not encompass all service leavers entering teaching.</p><p>The Cadet Expansion Programme was funded jointly by the Department for Education and the Ministry of Defence between 2012 to 2015. The provisional allocations for Harborough can be found in the attached table. Local authorities continue to be responsible for determining final allocations, in consultation with local schools, and will inform schools of their budgets for 2020/2021 early next year. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/09/2020 answer text <p>The national funding formula for schools includes a deprivation factor that acts as a proxy measure for schools that are most likely to need extra resources to support their pupils in reaching their full potential. This is identified through two indicators - eligibility for free school meals (current eligibility and historic eligibility through the “Ever6” measure, which records pupils who have been registered for benefits-based free school meals at any point in the last six years); and the level of relative deprivation in the postcode where the pupil lives (measured using Income Deprivation Affecting Children Index, or IDACI). IDACI measures the proportion of children in an area living in income-deprived families and provides funding based on the relative socio-economic deprivation of the areas in which their pupils live. By using this measure, we have broadened the scope of deprivation funding beyond just those who are eligible for free school meals and the pupil premium.</p><p> </p><p>The Department applies a “banding” methodology whereby IDACI scores are grouped into seven bands, with each band representing an increase in the expected level of deprivation. The table below shows the proportion of pupils aged 4 to 16 in mainstream schools, in each IDACI band, in different regions, based on the October 2019 census. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/07/2020 answer text <p>Local authorities employ staff to manage their attendance services and fulfil their statutory responsibilities, but the Government does not collect data on the number of such officers.</p><p>Attendance officers are also employed directly by schools and academy trusts to help improve pupil attendance. In November 2019, the Department recorded the total number of attendance officers directly employed by state-funded schools in England as 2,982. A breakdown of this figure by local authority area is attached, for reference. This figure does not include attendance support through contracted services, those not directly employed by the school or those employed by local authorities. The data for 2010-2012 is not currently available at a granular enough level to allow us to provide either local authority data, or local authority national aggregates, for these years.</p><p> </p><p>The number of pupils entered for art and design A-Levels in England[1] has decreased over that time, but has been relatively stable over the past 3 years, with around 35,000 entries.</p><p> </p><p>[1] England totals derived as per attached spreadsheet, for state funded schools only and the sum of local authority figures.
