answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/07/2019 answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence (MOD) keeps all aspects of the support provided to injured Service personnel under continual review to ensure that the provision remains fit for purpose; this includes the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP) which the MOD introduced in 2013, in conjunction with the Department for Work and Pensions, to simplify the financial support available for members of the Armed Forces who have been seriously injured as a result of Service since 6 April 2005. The AFIP provides eligible recipients with on-going payments to help with the additional costs associated with their injuries. Service personnel and veterans who are entitled to a Guaranteed Income Payment of 50% or higher through the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme are eligible for AFIP, which is tax-free and paid for life with no review. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/07/2019 answer text <p>The War Pension Scheme (WPS) is kept under continual review to ensure that the scheme is fit for purpose. War Pensions payments and associated allowances are uprated annually to protect against rising prices. In April 2019, rates for Financial Year 2019-20 increased by 2.4% in line with the September 2018 Consumer Price Index.</p><p>It remains the case that any veteran who believes they have suffered ill-health or injury due to service in the Armed Forces before 6 April 2005 is eligible to claim no-fault compensation under the WPS, which has no time limits and with the benefit of reasonable doubt always given to the claimant.</p><p>Decisions are medically certified and follow consideration of service and medical evidence and carry full rights of appeal to an independent tribunal. Other grades of steel used in the manufacture of Astute Class submarines were sourced from a range of suppliers, including a number of UK companies. Owing to the complexity of the Astute programme supply chain and the time that has elapsed since steel for the programme was procured, it is not possible to provide reliable information on the tonnages of steel provided by each supplier.</p><p> </p><p>Steel for our major defence programmes is generally sourced by our prime contractors from a range of UK and international suppliers and that remains the case. This Government is committed to creating the right conditions in the UK for a competitive and sustainable steel industry. It publishes its future pipeline for steel requirements, together with data on how Departments are complying with steel procurement guidance. This may include, for example, technical publications, operating and systems manuals to ensure that equipment can be safely operated, maintained and configured through life.</p><p> </p><p>The procurement strategy for the new Medium Helicopter programme is under development and a contract has not yet been placed with industry.
