unstar this property answer text <p>NHS England and NHS Improvement are currently working across the entire criminal justice pathway to develop and improve services for offenders with mental health difficulties.</p><p> </p><p>NHS England and NHS Improvement are working with partners to intervene at the earliest opportunity to ensure that offenders receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.</p><p> </p><p>Liaison and Diversion Services operate in police stations and courts to identify and assess people with vulnerabilities including mental health issues. Where that individual is subsequently sent to prison the receiving prison will have the relevant information of the individual’s mental health needs to inform the reception healthcare staff so that they can implement appropriate interventions as soon as possible after they arrive.</p><p> </p><p>Health services are available across the estate where assessment identifies treatment needs.</p><p> </p><p>The service specification for prison mental health services was reviewed in 2017-18. This review, led by clinicians in conjunction with stakeholders and informed by experts with experience, was published in March 2018, with all new services being commissioned against it from April 2018. The new specification includes the Royal College of Psychiatrists Quality Network for Prison Mental Health Services standards, ensuring equity of quality across the estate.</p><p> </p><p>NHS England and NHS Improvement are currently consulting on revised Transfer and Remission guidance to ensure that new clinically developed timescales are set which ensure timely and appropriate access to mental health treatment in hospital when necessary, in a clinically safe and well managed way. The consultation ends on 19 July 2019.</p><p> </p><p>The NHS Long Term Plan committed to a new service to support people leaving custody to remain engaged with community-based healthcare services. The reconnect service will support continuity of care when people return to the community.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p>

unstar this property answer text <p>A search of the Department’s Ministerial correspondence database from the last six months has identified no items of correspondence received on the need to redevelop Whipps Cross Hospital.</p><p>On 29 September the Government announced the next stage in our strategic investment in the National Health Service, with the Health Infrastructure Plan to ensure that our health infrastructure is fit-for-purpose for decades to come. The Plan forms the most ambitious rolling programme of investment in health infrastructure and hospital building in recent decades, and a new, strategic approach to improving our hospitals and health infrastructure.</p><p>Whipps Cross Hospital’s major scheme is one of the six projects that will form the first £2.7 billion phase of the major hospital rebuilds. This gives the green light for the Redevelopment of Whipps Cross Hospital Scheme, to deliver a brand new hospital at Whipps Cross, providing a range of services including, emergency and maternity as well as specific outpatient, diagnostic, surgical and support for intensive care services.</p><p> </p><p> </p>

unstar this property answer text <p>The Department collaborated with the Royal College of Physicians on the National Review of Asthma Deaths and welcomed this report. Since its publication, significant improvements have been made in asthma care.</p><p>Respiratory disease, including asthma, is a clinical priority within the NHS Long Term Plan, which aims to improve outcomes for patients through earlier diagnosis and increased access to treatments. The Respiratory Delivery Board will take forward respiratory proposals set out in the Plan by working with key partners.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Publication of the responses to Prevention of Future Deaths (PFD) reports is a matter for the Chief Coroner as set out in the Coroners (Investigations) Regulations 2013.</p><p>The Department takes seriously concerns raised by coroners. Where coroner reports are issued to the Department for response, officials liaise with the relevant bodies to ensure concerns are carefully considered and lessons are identified, so that appropriate action can be taken.</p><p>The Department responded to one PFD report concerning asthma services on 24 April 2019. This was in response to the Prevention of Future Deaths Report issued by the Assistant Coroner for the Eastern Area of Greater London following the inquest into the death of Sophie Holman.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is committed to doing all it can to ensure the National Health Service learns from tragic, avoidable deaths and provides high quality, safe care for all patients. This is demonstrated by publication of the NHS Patient Safety Strategy on 2 July 2019. The strategy provides a framework for patient safety improvement over the next ten years and sits alongside the NHS Long Term Plan.</p>

unstar this property answer text <p>The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) clinical guideline on the diagnosis and management of asthma, published in 2017, provides authoritative, evidence-based guidance for healthcare professionals, including on the pharmacological management of asthma. NICE guidelines are based on a thorough assessment of the available evidence and are developed through extensive engagement with stakeholders, including patient and professional representatives. Healthcare professionals are expected to take them fully into account. NICE is currently carrying out a partial update of its guideline and expects to publish final guidance in January 2020.</p> more like this

The current health grant is a central element of this. We will be drawing on evidence in due course from the Thalidomide Trust regarding the value and benefits of the grant when considering arrangements for when the current 10 year grant ends in 2023. unstar this property answer text <p>The Department has not assessed the potential benefits to public health of stopping the advertising of high sugar milk and milk-replacement products on public transport.</p><p> </p><p>As committed to in the second chapter of our childhood obesity plan, published in June 2018, the Department of Health and Social Care and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport have jointly consulted on introducing further advertising restrictions for products high in fat, sugar and salt (HFSS) on TV and online. As part of this consultation we invited views on whether the scope of this consultation should be extended to other forms of media and how HFSS products should be defined. We have received a high level of responses to the consultation and it is important we take the time to consider them carefully before we set out further action.</p><p> </p> more like this
