Friend the Minister for Women and Equalities has frequent discussions with cabinet colleagues on a range of equalities matters.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for Health and Social Care lead on policy relating to the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. Advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation is that there may be considerable benefit in offering the HPV to other individuals who have a similar risk profile to that of the men who have sex with men (MSM) population attending Specialist Sexual Health Services and/or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) clinics. As the largest donor to Gavi's core mission contributing £1.65 billion to the Global Vaccine Alliance's (Gavi) 2021-2025 strategic period, the UK supports Gavi's efforts to accelerate the introduction, access and coverage of the vaccine in low- or middle-income countries (LMICs) with the aim of immunising 86 million more girls by 2025. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/01/2020 answer text <p>Since the introduction of the human papillomavirus (HPV) immunisation programme in 2008 three million females have received the completed HPV vaccine course in England.</p><p>HPV vaccine coverage data is published annually by Public Health England (PHE) by dose and birth cohort (school year). Vaccine coverage data are not routinely collected by ethnicity.</p><p>PHE developed a range of resources and communication materials targeted at the public and health professionals to support the expansion of the HPV immunisation programme to boys. These materials were developed in close collaboration with National Health Service partners and a number of relevant stakeholders from charities and academia. The resources are intended to provide all the information necessary to help teenagers and their parents make an informed decision about the HPV vaccine. Local immunisation providers should share this information and signpost teenagers and their parents to these materials when the HPV vaccination programme is offered in schools.</p><p>Factsheets for school immunisation teams, headteachers and teaching teams and health professionals are available to inform parents and schools about the programme. The latest data shows that 64.7% of year nine females completed the two-dose HPV vaccination course in 2019/20 compared with 83.9% in 2018/19. HPV vaccination coverage for the priming dose in 2019/20 was 54.4% in year eight males.</p><p>Providers across the country are working with NHS England and NHS Improvement commissioners with clinical advice from Public Health England to catch up on vaccinations, including HPV. There are no plans for a catch-up HPV immunisation programme for older males as evidence suggests that they are already benefitting greatly from the indirect protection, known as herd protection, that has built up from 10 years of the girls’ HPV vaccination programme. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/02/2022 answer text <p>In 2020/21, 71% of males in year 8 received their first dose of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and 54.7% of males in year 9 received a second dose. Providers are running catch up programmes for those academic cohorts who may have missed HPV vaccinations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, boys can also receive their vaccination through the National Health Service commissioned School Aged Immunisation Service providers or from their general practitioner until the age of 25 years old.</p><p>HPV vaccinations are available in all sexual health trusts for men who have sex with men (MSM). Evidence suggests that well over 50% of MSM regularly attending sexual health clinics have received at least one HPV vaccination.
