	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/02/2020 answer text <p>Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for boys aged 12-13 was rolled out nationally in September 2019. There are no plans for a catch-up HPV vaccination programme for older males as evidence suggests that they are already benefitting greatly from the indirect protection, known as herd protection, that has built up from 10 years of the girls’ HPV vaccination programme. The priority is to make sure that as many eligible 12-13-year-old boys and girls as possible are offered protection from HPV infection from the 2019-20 school year.</p><p>In April 2018, the HPV vaccination programme was extended to include men who have sex with men offering protection for males at particularly high risk up to the age of 45.</p><p>The current United Kingdom approach is supported by the best available evidence and by recommendations from our independent experts, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation.</p><p> </p><p> </p> answering member constituency Bury St Edmunds answering member printed Jo Churchill question first answered 10/02/2020 15:35:12 answering member 4380 label Biography information for Jo Churchill

	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/02/2022 answer text <p>The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) keeps the eligibility criteria of all vaccination programmes under review and considers new evidence as it emerges.</p><p>In 2018, a human papillomavirus (HPV) programme targeting men who have sex with men (MSM) aged up to 45 years old who attend sexual health clinics was introduced, after a recommendation from the JCVI as they are a high-risk group for HPV exposure and some related cancers. The Department intends to publish a vaccination strategy in the near future to maintain and develop the United Kingdom’s immunisation programme.</p><p> </p><p>The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is routinely administered in schools, with a target of 90% coverage for 13 to 14 year old females. Where full HPV coverage has not been attained in schools, HPV vaccination can be administered in general practice up to the age of 25 to support high levels of population coverage. A review of vaccination and immunisations in 2019 has led to reformed general practice contractual arrangements to support the delivery of vaccination activity to increase coverage. School-aged immunisation providers have been hosting educational activities, such as school assemblies, to educate boys about the benefits of the HPV programme.</p><p>NHS England’s Regional Public Health Commissioners work with providers and local authorities to identify any inequalities or variations in uptake and coverage and take appropriate action. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/02/2022 answer text <p>In 2020/21, 71% of males in year 8 received their first dose of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and 54.7% of males in year 9 received a second dose. Providers are running catch up programmes for those academic cohorts who may have missed HPV vaccinations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, boys can also receive their vaccination through the National Health Service commissioned School Aged Immunisation Service providers or from their general practitioner until the age of 25 years old.</p><p>HPV vaccinations are available in all sexual health trusts for men who have sex with men (MSM). Evidence suggests that well over 50% of MSM regularly attending sexual health clinics have received at least one HPV vaccination.
